U.S.A. Maryland

I just found out that I got accepted to AACC's NS! I am SO excited! I wanted to post here because I wanted to get to know other ladies/gentlemen out there that will part of my class! We could meet up at the Orientation next week!! :) Congratulations to all out there who got acceptance! YAY...first step toward our dream!

Hey TanyaP, I am not sure how many people would be on the wait list. If I have to guess, I would say 20 people. But one thing for sure is that you should definitely go the the orientation on this coming Wednesday. Because I heard some people who were accepted but didn't show end up losing their spot since attendance is required. On the other hand, some people who were on the wait list end up getting their spot during orientation. Never hurt to try.:twocents:

Btw, Thank you SiennaGreen for the encouragement and the wonderful insight on used book & palm.:yeah:

Brian, you're super welcome! Come out and be a part in your Nursing Student Association!

As far as wait list, I second making sure you go to orientation. I know of several people in my class who were waitlisted and got in. Some folks get in and decide to attend elsewhere. They're also going to have a certain number of students who have to retake it from this semester, so they won't know that until after finals.

Congrats everyone! Anybody have any advice as to orientation? Any useful things to bring etc.? It's going to be a challenging, but great four semesters :)

I am hoping someone might be able to answer these questions for me (hopefully you, Sienna!)

I went to the Skyscape website and it listed the Nursing Constellation software at $89.95, but our pre-orientation packet said it costs about $290. Is this just a great sale or am I supposed to buy all the other recommended software too? Also, it did not state it was on a memory card, is that just implied?

Oh, and uniforms. Can we buy those closer to clinical? Anyone know if we can wear long sleeved scrub tops or plain long sleeved tops underneath? I have a visible arm tattoo and that seems the best way to cover it.

Finally, does anyone know if it is possible to work even part-time during this program? Nothing crazy, just one or maybe two shifts a week. I don't have a lot of financial support so it might be a requirement for me and I was wondering if it could be done successfully...

Thanks!!

Easy! :D

I remember Skyscape (the software) only being around $80. However, I think the $290 number might be for both the software and Palm? That makes more sense.

You have lots of time to worry about uniforms. You won't begin clinical until week 8, and won't need them until then. Lots of people wore plain white long sleeved shirts- not me because it was way too hot for a girl with some girth in that Rehab facility. Otherwise, people often covered up tattoos with bandages or gauze...whatever works.

Working...ahh, that's a hard one. I could never do it. However, I have a family. There are (and were) some students who wanted to work during school. It is generally discouraged for a reason. Many, many of those people have had to make some adjustments. Some were wise, and cut back their hours when they felt things slipping academically. Some didn't, and are currently really struggling in 2nd semester. Some...well, they didn't make the grades and have had to retake the class. So, you know yourself and your situation. Be prepared to cut back your hours if you at all can. Then if you find you can get through 120 while working p/t, prepare yourself to take a leave of absence completely for second semester.

Just my humble opinion. I have just watched too many, who would have made good nurses, get cut because they couldn't keep their grades up and work. It's a challenge.

Congraulations:yeah: to everyone who Got into the Nursing program!!!

I have a Question for those of you who been in the program.....What color are AACC's uniforms and in clinicals what do you have to wear???

Thank you!
