CNA--How to get hired w/o 6 months experience!

U.S.A. Maryland

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and really glad I found this site. My questions is this..I have my heart set on a certain hospital, and have even looked at a few others surrounding my location. I received my CNA in December, I already have a Bachelor's degree...am working ona few more pre-req's before applying to an RN program. i went ahead and got my CNA so I could begin my health career now. Well..the problem is, NOONE seems to be hirig techs w/out at least 6 months experience! How am I supposed to GET experience, if noone will hire me?!?

Hi! I'm surprised you can't find a job as a tech with your license. How about doing some volunteer work to "pad" out your resume? I didn't have any hospital experience other than volunteering when I started nrsg. school. I was able to get a tech job after my first semester.

Have the hospitals told you specifically that you don't have enough experience, or is it just that you haven't gotten a response? Some hospitals are faster to get back to applicants than others.

Keep trying. I'm sure you'll find something soon!

Thank you so much for your encouragement. The one hospital's HR told me that they rarely take applicant's w/under 6 months experience. The specific unit I was posting for told him "no" to any apps under 6 months experience. Such a Catch-22.....but I haven't given up! I'm working connections, I've gathered letters of recommendation, etc.

Hello

I got my license when I was in high school threw a vocational school. I worked for a nursing home while I was still in high school. Usually nursing homes are in great need for CNA's. I know you said that you have your heart set on a certain place but maybe you could just work at a nursing home for the time being and then work your way up. Hope that helped some.
