Can I get a CNA certification if I'm currently in a nursing school?

Hey,

I've been looking at externship programs around the area because I'm interested in probably doing it in the summer. A lot of them require a CNA certification and I remember reading somewhere that you can automatically request for one after your first round of clinicals? But I'm not sure if I read that for another state or how it works here in MD. Any information is appreciated, thanks in advance :)

The answer to your question is yes and no. Specifically, the Maryland Board of Nursing decides which nursing program courses are considered equivalent to Nursing Assistant Training programs. So depending on which school you are attending the exact length of time and courses may vary. If you goto the MBON you can view exactly which courses would satisfy the requirements.

I was told that most nursing programs in MD (at least cc level) will qualify you for CNA application after you have successfully completed your Nursing Fundementals course. Check with the head of the nursing department where you are enrolled.

OK, HERE's a stupid question. are you qualified to work as a cna after you have your lpn license? i mean if you cant find an lpn job, will they hire you as a cna w/o the cna license?

Here's another question:

So in browsing around the Maryland Board of Nursing site there is a link for a "Request for CNA application" for individuals and agencies. If you're a student nurse do you need to request for one of these and fill it out upon completion of your Fundamentals class?

Fundamentals of course being the course that MBON certifies for me being CNA "competent" or something along those lines. If there's some other way you need to get a CNA application as a student nurse I'm just not finding it.

Just call the MBON and they can send you a packet with the application. I am not sure of the phone number.
