Question about Nursing Happiness

hello, i am a guy about to apply for nursing school and i am looking at everything i can on the subject. i came upon this website with alot of people hating on nursing and saying how much it sucks. my question for you guys is how do i differentiate between the good things that i've heard about nursing and the venom-soaked rhetoric on that page? do i just assume its somewhere in the middle or is it mostly good or mostly bad? any help would be appreciated and here's the page: http://www.aboutmyjob.com/?p=786

Have you thought about job shadowing at a local hospital?

This is one of those times that workin as an Aid is a good thing before going to school for nursing. I think it helped me realize that this was the field that I wanted to be in, so I wasn't just wasting time or money on something I was gonna hate.

Is working as an aide something that anyone can just walk in and do or is that like a job you have to apply for and then only get if they hire you? I wouldn't be against doing something like that or even shadowing a nurse for a little while to see what it's like, but the anger of those people in my original post really caught me off guard and I found it hard to believe nurses everywhere felt that way.
