Anyone else out there a dedicated gym head that is also a nurse. get at me.

Specializes in ED, Neuro ICU.

I'm a fat pig fit nurse who likes to gym and eat a ton! Gotta get my bulk on.

You gotta be a fit nurse cause when those female nurses need help, who're they gonna call...? Def not the GHOSTBUSTERS! Get fit and get right!

I do brazilian jiu jitsu and it keeps me fit, sane, and de-stressed. I've been at it 8 years now.

I just do general physical training for self-confidence and to not be the "fat" nurse.

My junior year of school (going to be a senior in August), my personal life threw some curve balls at me. My girlfriend passed away, my father had his leg amputated etc and I gained a LOT of weight and I mean a LOT. I was in the dumps for months, ate nothing but fast food and if I wasn't running around doing random things I was laying in bed throwing a pity party so my shiny 3.8 GPA dropped to a 3.2. Moral is I finally got my life together, got back in the gym and started to take my studies (and life) more seriously. The gym for me is a place of peace, away from the real world where the only competition I have is myself.

I'm just applying to nursing school this coming month, but I have a 3.98 GPA and scored a 90 on the TEAS so I should be good. With that said, I have lifted my entire adult life (I'm 38). I competed in powerlifting for about 10 years; my best meet was a 1301 total at 165. Last year I was training to compete again and dropped a 405 front squat on my left knee, completely rupturing my quad tendon. I'm just now getting back into deep squats, about 8 months post-op. This also happened during my Anatomy class and my wife was good enough to push me from class to class in a wheelchair. I'm not sure if I will ever have a competitive squat again, but deadlifts don't really bother it, so maybe I will do a push/pull meet someday.
