Considering Nursing, Need Advice!!

Nursing Students Male Students

Hello everyone, much like the guy that posted before me, I'm a 22 yr old who has 2 years left in the USN and I am looking for advice. I have recently decided to that I will not stay in the navy due to the lack of intrest in it. In return I have decided to choose nursing as my next step in life. Multiple reasons why I have chosen this career.

But honestly I do not have the first idea in getting started. Considering the fact I am currently out to sea it makes it near impossible to talk with anyone who has experience. As far as internet research goes I've googled every word and acronym that i would believe to have anything to do with nursing, which brought me here. So if anyone can tell me the requirements that would be great. Things such as, "Is a required SAT score required?" and things of that matter. Any help would be greatful. Thanks!!!

Mike

DIC,

Have you looked at doing the Army Reserves and then using their "STRAP" program to get your BSN (they basically will pay for it.. you can then save your GI bill - and apply it towards a masters in the future) and after getting the BSN you could either apply to the active duty CRNA slot - or just transition to active duty.

"If you're training in the specialties listed below, you are eligible for the Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP), which offers a monthly stipend of nearly $1,907.00. To qualify, you must be unconditionally accepted into the education program or residency for which you seek funding."

"Associate Degree Nurses accepted to a BSN or MSN completion program"

This is awesome, I didn't see this when I looked at this website last week. Did it just get added? You can get your MSN as well and still receive almost 2g's a month; you can't beat that. I used all 36 months of my G.I.Bill so I'll get another grant to pay for the BSN and pocket that 2k. Add in almost $500 a month pre-tax from being an O1E and a nursing salary...

Not a bad option.

DIC - when did you 'use up' your gi bill? last date drawn - and when did your active duty period end?

I sent you the PM...

Hey guys,

I know this is the male forum but you are the only ones talking about this and I need your help. The veteran's advisor at my school is a half-wit and is far from helpful.

I applied for the CHP33 and I have to enroll for my Fall classes on the 30th and pay my tuition by July 30th. Will the CHP33 just pay the school (for my tuition) in August, and the school will refund me my money? I know you guys might not be able to answer this question, I just wanted to see what your thoughts were, or if you are also encountering the same problem.

Also, on the DVA website it says that the stipend for books is paid out once a year. Do you think we will get it in August?

And finally, do we still use W.A.V.E. for our monthly enrollment verification?

This new GI Bill sounds great but so far I have so many unanswered questions, and like I said my veteran's advisor is a loser.
