CNA to BSN - how to get into a good college in SF Bay Area

  1. 0 I am 21 and have an AA degree from Junior College. I am currently working part-time as a CNA. I want to go to school and earn a BSN but my GPA is about a 3.1 so I'm concerned that my chances are very slim to get into a good program. Perhaps a private college is the way to go? I live in SF Bay area. Anybody have any recommendations about which colleges to look into applying to?

Instead of wasting your money on a private college for the same degree you could get from a state university, if you can't get into one of those, try an ASN program first at your local CC, or try LPN first.

Bay area BSN programs are really competitive, your GPA might be a little low. Call every school nursing department and admissions and talk about your chances. Check out private schools (more expensive, but if you get you degree a year faster might be worth it) like Samuel Merritt (great school, but expensive), but avoid for-profit schools like U of Phoenix, Kaplan, etc.

The ADN or ASN might be a good option for you, you just need to meet the requirements and get lucky. Apply to all the community colleges that you can.

Basically apply everywhere you qualify for RN programs (ADN, BSN, even diploma). I have a BA, and I ended up going out of state to a private school.
