UOP, CO~LPN to BSN

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Is there anyone out there who has graduated from University of Phoenix LPN to BSN programs or done their BSN through them?

I am in the beginning stages of looking into this program. So far it looks alright, other than the money.

It is $325/credit unit, each class is 3 units and they take 1 class every 5 weeks. It's about $1000/class. It takes about 31/2 years to finish the program. So we're looking at $40,000 for my BSN. Does anyone know how this compares financially to traditional programs?

Hoping to get some input here before I make any commitments.

Again, I am just in the beginnning stages of looking here. The waiting lists in CO for traditional programs are 3+ years! :scrying:

When I spoke to the UOP, they have told me repeatedly that it would be a 2 year program and cost roughly $22,000. I do have all the pre-req's out of the way, so maybe it is less for me. I really don't see the need for a BSN. But it will take me about the same ammount of time to just get an ASN from Excelsior. So why not go for the BSN? .......Perhaps because $22,000+ is a heck of a lot of money. I can not imagine a $40,000 price tag. That is 1/3 of a small house where I live. My employer may pay $5,000, but that still leaves me a $17,000 bill when all is said and done. If I net an additional $1,000 per month, it will still take 1 1/2 years to break even (when you add interest) Excellsior would only cost $11,000 including air-fare/R+B to Indiana and Atlanta for Clinical pre-tests and CPNE.

I hope I am not just talking to myself. Any other comments from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

I really need my RN. But I need to work to support my family too. I can not do the community college ASN as it is a long wait , and very hard to go to school 4 days a week and work 4 days a week when there are only 7 days in a week.

Hi I also checked out Excelsior College out of New York. They are not as accredited as they say. In Colorado you have to do 350 hours of perceptorship plus the cpne thing. I hear trying to get clinicals are not as easy as they say. There is a wait for getting the cpne. I also heard you have to be on your toes for that. any mistakes could cost you more money and time as well. I still like UOP hopefully I will start with them soon by January of 2008.. have a great day

That's great that you don't have alot of classes to take. Congrats on signing up. Hope that everything works out well for you. I am up at the Turnpike Campus in Westminster.

Did you say you know a few people that are in the LPN-BSN at UOP? How do they like it?

does UOP require LVN to work any length of time before they can apply to the LVN to BSN program?

I believe so. I think it is either 6 mos or one year. I'll double check and post again when I know for sure.

Just found out that they postponed the beginning of our program. It was to begin on Tuesday June 19th!:( :banghead: :angryfire Not sure what is going on yet.......

I am a lpn and my wife has her bsn. The schools are backed up in Michigan and am considering lpn to bsn through UOP. We are willing to relocate as long as I get into a program. If someone could tell me more about UOP lpn to bsn I would greatly appreciate it. I was curious as to where exactly they have this particular program, whether it is approved by all states, what accreditation they have, and why the program was postponed in Colorado and whether it is to continue there. Thank you so much in advance!

Please keep us updated. Im about to begin LPN program and im really considering this school.

excelsior is fully accredited by the nln and the board of nurses in new york. if there are extra requirements it is because of your state not ec. most states do not have additional requirements. the cpne is not clinical , it is evaluation of your clinical skills...big difference.you must have extensive clinical knowledge to pass the cpne.
