Nursing Students LPN-RN

Anyone starting LPN-RN at St. Vincent's College in Bridgeport, CT spring semester?

I'm currently in the LPN to RN program. I graduate in May!

Were you looking for general info or just to see if anyone was starting in the Spring. If you have any questions about the bridge program maybe I can help.

Wow Congrats!! I wanted to know if anyone was to start in the Spring. I'm so nervous to start but excited. Thanks so much! I'm a bit unhappy that I have to wait until next spring to take the bridge course though, and that I have to take A&P again.

Well if you have accepted the seat at St. V's you can always take all the non-nursing classes needed to graduate. Then when you start the nursing classes, you'll only have those to deal with. Are you a day or evening student?

I did thankfully get accepted in the Nursing Program. I was extremely happy since they said usually student get accepted into the extended program. I replied to your message. Thanks!

Most students do get put into the extended program. LPN's tend to be accepted pretty easily since we are entering the nursing classes at the 2nd year and a lot of empty seats are there after the first 2 semesters are where lots of people drop out/fail out. As long as you have their basic pre-reqs done.

Oh by the way make sure you take ALL the first year non-nursing classes first because in order to be authorize to take the Charter Oak online class St V's wants all the first year non-nursing done. A&P I and II, Micro, Eng 101, Math, Psych I and II all have to be done before they will let you take the online transitional class for lpn to rn.

Hi im an lpn and looking into bridging i just have two more of the pre reqs and the A&P's to take, i have friends that did the traditional RN program at st v, so does it matter whether u take ur A&P there or at another school? also about how long did it take you to bridge? im going to a session next week and just looking for some extra advice. also basically whats the curriculum for lpn to rn there?

Do not take A&P anywhere else other than St V. If you do you will need to take a competency test on A&P in order for them to transfer it to St V. No one I know of has ever passed it.

If you're asking how long the bridge class takes in terms of nursing classes take, its 2 semesters worth of classes. If you look at the website and take a look at the curriculum, look at the 2nd year nursing classes, those are what you will be taking.

In a nut shell, you have to complete the pre-reqs of Bio and Chem, as well as all of the first year non-nursing courses (A&P I and II, Microbiology, English, Algebra, Psych I & II), after those you will do a 3 credit on line LPN to RN transitional class through Charter Oak and then a 1 credit lecture/clinical class at St V's. When those are complete, you will enter the 2nd year of nursing classes. You also have to complete a humanities elective, Ethics, World Religions, Sociology before you can graduate.

I had taken the bio pre-req, English, Psych I & II, sociology, world religions at another school. I did chem in the summer at St V's, and in the Fall, Winter Intersession, and Spring semesters (I did the online transitional class as well as the 1 credit St V's transitional class) I completed all the non-nursing classses leaving me only the 4 nursing classes to do. Took me two years from beginning to end.

Thanks so much!! That's so much help!! Do they accept micro from other schools? And also do u take the two bridge courses together or is one a pre req to the other?

Micro is transferrable BUT you still need to take the competency test and pass that in order to transfer the Micro.

The two bridge classes are taken in the same semester (Spring). The Charter Oak one is taken in January and I think it's 8 wks long, then you take the other at St V's right after. That one was 1 wk long Monday thru Friday and I think 8 hrs a day (?) and it was comprised of some classroom time and the majority being clinical time on the floor. You have to take and pass the Charter Oak online class before you can take the St V's one. The St V's one is a pass or fail grade.

Okay excellent so in order to get accepted to the school in general I need bio and chem, then before nursing basically everything else ?

Pre-reqs to be accepted into the school---->bio and chem.

Be sure to complete ALL the classes you want to transfer before you apply. Once accepted they will not take any more transfer credits regardless of whether or not you took them before starting any classes at St V's. When I applied they only took 18 credits to transfer. I had completed 15 and wanted to take another 3 credit class (much cheaper at the Comm College) but b/c I applied and was accepted before I took it, they would only take the 15 I had.

I do know they have changed the amount of credits they will accept now, its much more. "All students must earn at least 50% of program requirements at St. Vincent’s College. Students are required to complete all academic requirements within 5 years of enrollment".

Personally, I took ALL the non-nursing (gen ed) classes prior to starting my nursing classes. The nurses classes are intense and with clinicals added in, it takes up almost all of the week. I wouldn't want to have to add in another class I had to worry about studying for, projects, papers etc. Just wasn't worth it to me. My friends who had taken nursing classes w/gen eds regretted it. They'd freak out b/c they had a big nursing class test as well as a big test for the other class and no time to do both. It's do-able but not something I'd want to do.
