LVN to RN in Southern California

Basically, I'm lost and need a little help/guidance.

I have been a LVN for 6 years. I am desperately seeking to go back to school but cannot afford west coast. I'm in the process of finishing up all my Science pre req's as mine are all past 5 years. My job really needs me to get my RN to fill a upper management position that will be available shortly, and I want to further my education too.

Currently it feels like its just about impossible to do that though. Santa Ana is a 5 year wait lost, saddleback is 4, cypress about 3-4, GoldenWest even longer. West coast is 100k bucks and I wouldn't be able to keep my job as well due to the class times.. My kids are in CA and I don't plan on leaving so even a 30 unit option would work for me, but I can't find one. I don't really know what to do at this point.

Are there any programs in OC,IE,LA that are not insanely priced and are available in a less than a year waiting list. If I didn't have kids I would just go to school out of state for a year but I can't do that...

Any advice?

I know Azusa Pacific University is opening up a bridge program for a 30 Unit RN next year... But nothing is set in stone.

Have you tried Rio Hondo or Cerritos? Or even Chaffey? I got in on my first try. Ended up at Chaffey.

Where is chaffey?

Cerritos I was told is 3-4 years out and they have clinicals usually 3 days during weekdays which would be a problem for my work.

I have not looked into Rio Hondo. I definently will.

Chaffey is in Rancho Cucamonga. You should go to info meetings in areas you would like to attend school because it is the only way you will find out how the programs work. At my school, we only attend clinicals once a week for 12hrs a day and lecture once a week.

Does Chaffeey offer a 30 unit option? I will give them a call. I went to all info meetings to local CC's in OC area, but at this point I'm willing to drive to ranching and other spots elsewhere.

Does anybody know where I can find a listing of 30 unit programs available in So Cal?

I've searched and Havnt come up with too many besides

Santa Ana (huge wait list)

Citrus college (available fall 2014)

Possibly Azuza Pacific University

Mira costa CC...

I found that most places I looked in this area will tell you up front that getting into a bridge program under the 30 unit option can be really difficult as they give preference to bridge students going for the degree.

That said, Pasadena City College admits students by lottery once you meet their cut score using the Chancellor's Formula. (Which I have no clue how it works). It's obviously chance-y, but I know several people who got in on the first try at PCC. Took me two tries.

My friend got into Cypress LVN to RN program right away. There was no waitlist. She started February 2013 for 3rd semester.

Try Cerritos. You need at least 1 year of experience at snf or sub acute. Their deadline is March 15. Since you've been working for 6 years, you should definitely try Cerritos. Good luck!!
