Lvn To Rn Program In Los Angels Area

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Hi Everyone,

Getting into an RN program is probably one of the most stressful things I've had to do. W/ that said, Someone please answer some of my questions!

*Is the PCC program hard to get into if you don't have a 3.0 GPA?

*Do they give LVN's priority?

*I've applied to PCC, GCC, LAVC for Spring 09, how long is the waiting list for these programs?

I have all my prereq's. I have a 2.7 overall GPA and I've been an LVN for 3years.

Any Advice??? Thank you for any help....:banghead:

I am also planning on attending WCU next year. Has anyone had any trouble transferring over their pre-reqs from JCs? Can any of you tell me which classes you took and where as far as pre-reqs. :]

thank you so much for your helpful comments!! i graduated from LVN school and got a license, then transfered to a local community college because i thought i would be able to go bridge course since i have a license. they did not tell me that i have to have an experience first, but i recently found out that i actually need one year experience to get in a bridge course. so i was sooo upset because it means i have to start as a new nursing student in the RN program. they are not even sure how long is the waiting. so i am thinking about WCU but money is the issue..... some of my friends told me that it costs same if i go to WCU or wait some years to get in the RN program at college.(i have to pay thousands dollors for one semester cuz i am an international) i am not sure exactly how much cost at WCU but seems waaay expensive than i thought.... anyway, i haven't apply for the RN program yet cuz i was taking some required classes last semester, but i think i will apply for the program in this fall semester..... im dying to know how long is the waiting list :crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2:

i've had friends that have waited 1 1/2 years to waiting 5 years. some schools are lottery, some are first come first serve. you should talk to a school nursing rep.

hello all,

i need help figuring this out...

i just finished my lvn and got my license in July. I have been job hunting since then..did get a job but doesn't utilize all of my LVN skills..but a job is a job..

i have been trying to get into an RN program forever!!!!

i have finished all my pre reqs and have an AA in health science...pre reqs have already expired though and don't have a very good GPA in my sciences..

are there any schools out there that don't have long waiting lists and that accept a lower GPA to get in?? or is it smarter to just repeat on of the science classes???

it seems that i'm just waisting my time sitting around and waiting for just another letter that declines me acceptance into an RN program...any advice???

did check out WCU..way too expensive and don't take pre rqes older than 5 years..

also, checked out and waiting to hear from them for acceptance into January class...but if they don't accept me then i don't know which way to take anymore??!!!

any help will be greatly appreciated...thank you

So what school did you end up going too? If you went to PCC how is it. I have been accepted to lbcc, pcc and to los angeles county school not sure where to go. Need your help

:idea:Hey Tommy, you dont need work experience in Pasadena CC, Long beach CC, East LA cc, St. francis, RioHondo, Glendale CC nor LAcount Allied school of nursing. I'm an LVN new grad and these school dont ask for work experience like i said i got accepted to some of these schools. You do need a good GPA in science classes but not in long beach they take 2.5 gpa in science. I just need someone to tell me which one should i choose PCC, lacounty, or long beach need help before i make a big mistake.:nurse::confused::crying2:

Susqy21,

Hello there. I was in the same boat as tommy was some time ago. I have been accepted to PCC and Citrus Community, as well as El Camino for their bridge programs. The only one that actually required a year experience was El Camino! The rest didnt even ask. Im not goin to El Camino, since I got accepted to the other places, its just too far to commute daily. Im leaning towards PCC, but I hear the program is vicious!! LoL. IDK, if there is anyone out there who knows of any info on Citrus I would be glad to hear it.

Hello to ALL,

I am an LVN with six years of hospital experience in California. I too want desparately to become an RN. I am finished with all my prerequisites but the waiting list everywhere is just impossible.

I found info on the Board Of Registered Nurses about a way for LVN to get BSN through distance learning which is accredited in the state of California as well.

Below I am pasting the info for everybody. This is a great way for working LVN's who have families and do not have time to get back to on campus school.

California Approved Programs in Partnership with Out of State Online Programs

  • LVN to BSN online program - Sonoma State University (SSU) in partnership with Indiana State University (ISU). For information regarding this program, please call 1-800-496-9613.

I hope I could help with this information. I am starting my BSN program this month and could not be happier about it.
