Hi fellow LPNs!!! :heartbeat

I'm currently working in home health & really love it. However, there have been some internal company issues lately that might be forcing me to leave my job. Whenever I look for work in the newspaper or online, I see sooo many more jobs for RNs than LPNs.

Going back to school for my RN would obviously mean a bigger income in the future. BUT I'm newly married. I enjoy going to be job, and coming home to my husband. Plus I love getting to spend time with friends, family, etc. I dread coming home from work and studying until my eyes hurt & making notecards...LPN school flashbacks!

However, I know it'd be worth it in the long run. I'm totally proud of my LPN degree, by the way. It's been invaluable to me, and I don't feel like ''less'' of a nurse because I don't have my RN. If I could find work as easily as a registered nurse, or make a little more money as an LPN, I'd probably never go back to school. But that's not the reality of the situation.

So what are your opinions on this? Does anyone who's going through this right now know how long it might take? (there's a community college I'm looking into that has a weekender program...guessing that will take longer). Do you think it's worth it? What are the advantages, and/or the drawbacks?

I also am an LPN who would be totally satisfied with that title, but so many places are only interested in hiring RN's especially where i live (Ohio), I have a great job right now in a doctors office where i work for a nurse practitioner and I am going to also be orientating down in our urgent care. But since so many hospitals only hire RN's i am chosing to continue my education thru Excelsior College, since I can do it at my own pace and my employer will help with the cost of the program even though I have to commit to 3 yrs. after completing the program, but I beleive it will be well worth it. I do not want to work all day and try to do school in the evenings, I also enjoy spending time with my family and do not want to have deadlines, so Excelsior seems a good route to go. I know a couple of people who completed their schooling this way and they are very successfull one works for the VA and the other is working in a local ER, they say this type of school is stressful but very doable. Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.

I am an LPN and very happy. However I am realistic in knowing that I will not be able to advance as an LPN. I am getting my RN! I found an online program in Ohio so that I can still work while earning my degree. University of Rio Grande

Also working in home health and don't like being out of work for weeks and even months at a time. That is the main reason for pursuing an RN license. In my area, even in good times, for every LVN job listing, there are four or five RN listings.

I also live in Ohio and started the Rio program online....I had to withdraw in my third semester because my father fell very ill and I took time off to help take care of him. I thought of restarting the program but missed the re-entrance test by a couple of points and I did not want to wait another yr. to try again so I am going to give excelsior a shot..Good luck
