i was bombing out of a&p at hcc and i'm afraid to try it again. if getting in to an rn school depends on a gpa, should i just bag it? i swear i can't memorize or learn like i used to. i'm 44. i did take and pass the math and all english requirements. got a's and b's on those classes but science is very very hard for me.

i hear there are waiting lists for rn programs around here and if you have less than a 3.0 or higher, you'll be waiting forever to get in. or never.

any suggestions? maybe i just had the wrong anatomy teacher?

Sorry to hear you had such a hard time with A&P. Where do you work as an LPN? I live in Polk County and PSC's school is extremely competitive. I don't want to discourage you but nursing is mostly science. The make or break class where I went to school (not PSC but a bridging program in another state) was microbiology. If you really want it bad enough, consider a tutor to get you thru. Good Luck.

Can't imagine micro too haha. I work in home care now thru Maxim. How about you?

I work in an MICU in a local hospital. Was an LPN for 20+ years and then went back for my RN. You can do this! "Older" students take it more seriously, or so my instructors told me. Tutors were available for those who wanted at no cost. Alot of people took advantage of them. I asked where you work as those who already work in the hospital seem to have an advantage. Even so, if you really want this, you can do it. Good Luck.

I worked at the MPLS VA Hospital for 13 yrs though, but hospitals are not impressed by that anymore. I left hospital in 2000, so it's like starting over to them.

Kinda like you then, nursed for over 20 yrs. before doing the RN thing. I could start over and try and study the A&P book I got to keep haha, maybe get ahead now? Then try the class again.

I attend SPC, got A's in both A&Ps and micro...enjoyed those classes.

Get some recommendations on which professor to take for your science classes. Go on RateMyProfessor and read the reviews about the professors/instructors at HCC. Doing this really helped me select the right professors for micro and statistics.

SPC accepts LPN-RN students on a first come, first served basis and not by GPA. Pinellas residents are given priority.

:banghead: Don't give up !!!!! You can do this...A&P is a pain in the A@#$ just keep at it, i had to take several meetings w/my professor she helped by suggesting a few books that weren't on our list of books plus this made her aware that i was serious about completing the class.....i've also heard that the teachers at HCC really don't care if you pass or not it's entirely up to ea. student....Good Luck
