Look out Baker College LPN to RN candidates!

Hello everyone, I just want to tell every LPN who is wanting to go to Baker College in Auburn Hills Mi to complete the RN ladder program. I was called yesterday by an advisor that new rules for the appllication process have been implemented. If you are not an LPN graduate of Baker Auburn Hills you can basically forget about applying to their lpn to rn ladder program. I am an Everest LPN graduate who has taken ALL the pre-reqs for the RN ladder program and I still don't qualify. Talk about angry :devil:!! I was told it is to weed out the applicants that graduated from other schools and I was also told that "I just fell into that gray area and I am stuck" What?!!! When I asked what could remedy this situation, I was told that I could start all over in their lpn program and then apply to the ladder program. Sorry but I am already an LPN and I don't think that financial aid will pay for me to take the same program I am already licensed for! At the end of the day the state of Michigan thinks I am an LPN and all LPN's have the same license regardless of which "approved program" the state allows us to choose from. I have been in comunication with the director of the program since the day they rolled out this program almost two years ago and she has been telling me all along that I should not have any issues applying since I a had all the pre-reqs done plus some and darn well near a 4.0! The biggest slap in the face is that I cannot transfer my pre-reqs and get credit for credit at a college that is on a semester calendar. I tried some of the other local colleges and was told I will get 2/3 credit per one baker credit, in other words I have to retake most of my pre-reqs. I am up to my eye balls in student loans and I can't even use them for face value! Well looks like I will be in school the rest of my life! Sorry to rant for so long, I just need support from my fellow nurses and fellow nursing students.

I totally understand how you feel, but Everest is not an accredited nursing program much like ITT Tech and their RN program. The difference lies in the course curriculums and theory. I strongly caution ANYONE who is going into nursing LPN or RN to make darn sure they are graduating from an accredited program so they do not run into this problem. Also, they HAVE TO allow so many admissions into the program that graduated from outside Baker otherwise it is discrimination. The reason

Actually Everest is an accredited program if it wasn't I would not have my license by the state of Michigan. Did you mean that it isn't a college just a technical school? The program at Baker changed only days ago, they were allowing 5 transfer students that had an lpn license by the state of Michigan as long as the Baker pre-reqs were completed. As a matter of fact I had the pre-reqs completed two years ago prior to entering Everest. Its just another way to weed out transfer students which is a shame because transfer students are just as good as Baker students.

It is approved by the MI Board of nursing but not accredited by an accrediting association. I agree that Baker has their ways of weeding out but then again, most programs do. I started going back to school initially with Baker ages ago but ended getting accepted at OCC LPN Program so now I am back playing their silly little games. I know about the changes it happened like overnight and nobody really knows what is going on....very confusing and nerve racking!! Good luck to you!

I am in the Baker PN program, how do you think the students feel that started off at Baker from start to finish then they have to compete with people from other schools? We have a nursing portfolio that we started in the PN program that carries over to the RN program and it has to be completed before you graduate from the RN program. All of our text books that we use in the PN program are RN books because it is a ladder program, did your school use PN books or RN books makes a big difference. I love Baker it's a great school .

I was one of those people who started at Baker, I have ALL the "Baker" pre-reqs completed as I stated before, and yes we too used books for an RN program as well, at the end of the day it doesn't matter because I have a license from the state of Mi which makes me a nurse by law. In my program we also did a nursing portfolio. Glad you love Baker and I hope all works out with you. I just wanted to put it out there that things like this happen to people. I think maybe you missed some of the info I had in my post as to what transpired. As far as other people to compete with my post clearly states that they are not even looking at them so I don't think you have anything to worry about, if you are still concerned after reading this post ask the nursing office how many non Baker PN grads are in the ladder program and you will feel better. Its just another way to weed people out.

So did you ever apply, did you take the entrance exam? There were a lot of outside students applying

I did apply, was accepted and received the acceptance letter in the mail, did my background check then got a phone call that the acceptance letter was a mistake and I was not accepted.

i am truly sorry.
oh don't feel sorry for me, i look at it this way, god places people and situations at his discretion, so this for some reason needed to happen. a couple of months later i ended up getting a great job with a great manager at a large hospital on a med-surge unit and i am finishing my rn elsewhere. at the time i was really hurt and couldn't figure it out but in the end i survived it. thanks for the concern :heartbeat.

I'm starting everest lpn program tomorrow and I was currently a student at schoolcraft college and I call the nursing department and was advise as long as I complete the program and get state licensed I can transfer my credits. How did you like everest and was it hard finding your first job?

I got my lpn elsewhere also but I combined my lpn with my classes at baker so I have a associate degree from baker so who know what they would say to me... because they have to accept it since they included it into their degree and I graduated so maybe I will see what they say for the hell of it.. lol
