Well I gave my statement as to what happened and also resigned yesterday and my manager called today and left a message stating they were going to report it to the state and per policy I cannot receive my vacation hours in pay because I didn't quit the proper way, which is a new policy. Whatever, I think the state of Michigan has bigger fish to fry and I'm not going to get depressed over it. I do have another job contingent and may be able to get a part time or full time position. I have prayed about it, and I have a peace with it. My manager has a terrible reputation for bullying and when she read my say about what I thought about her in my resignation she has even more reason to go to the state. We didn't have bar code scanning last week so that would have forced me to chart it at the time I gave it. How ironic....

No I'm an LPN for almost 4 years now and 2.5 on that floor. I am 44 though and don't sweat the small stuff and she knows it. When I first started there she made me cry and then laughed in my face. I heard she has done that to others as well, she is just a bully

I never thought of that, she has written me up and been petty since day one. She likes the male nurses and new students, and likes to intimidate people. I have been around that block and have challenged her in the beginning so I think its a little pay back. that floor is very difficult to work on, its no big deal at least I have hospital experience now. No there isn't a union for the nurses just the aides

It was a med that the pt gets every two hours, no one passed off any of their pts but we just told her where we would be and we had our phones with us. No adverse effects as a matter of fact it was just about a half hour early for the next dose. I think they just are petty, they do this to people there and lose great nurses for it. We just had a mass exodus and getting ready for another one. I'm just worried about the threat my manager and HR made to me about reporting me to the state for a safety issue. According to them it is because if that patient coded, then they wouldn't have known I already gave her the med. Its was a sinemet. I think its petty and should not be anything more than just a conversation between my manager and I.

Ok I just got suspended because I didn't chart off on a med that I gave at 0745 last week. I didn't chart on it because the pt was on isolation so I couldn't take my computer in the room plus she was a tube feeder. I figured I would chart off on it when I got back at 0945 from a staff meeting we had at 0800. I needed to start my 1000 med pass anyhow. Well when I came back the nurse stated she gave this pt the 0800 med and I told her I already did it and she should have called me first or check the pyxus to see if I pulled it out already. Her response was "it wasn't charted in the computer". She knows that I like most of the other nursed I work with don't chart everything right away for whatever reason. I know we should but things happen and we get side tracked. Well my manager had me down in human resources for this and I was threatened to be turned in to the state and have my license suspended for this. I am really upset about this because I think that the other nurse should have asked me or check the pyxus before giving anything to someone else's pt. My manager told me this will probably be grounds for termination as well. What the hec? I think if I do, so should the other nurse who is the assistant manager for her!! Someone please give advice. I feel singled out and bullied. I get many compliments from other peers, pts and family members on how I care for my pts. I don't get it, I see so many crappy nursing habits and laziness and those people get away with it. I don't get it........

Hello all! I am looking for a job in southeast Mi.. Prefer a facility but home care is ok if its steady work. Any one know of openings anywhere? Been an lpn for almost 4 years. 2.5 on a med-surg floor and one year ltc and home care. Please help!

I noticed that studyguide 101 offers notes for the fcca, just wondering if anyone used them and are they worth it. I used them for all of my other testing and most were good but not sure if I should use them for the fcca. I am starting the fcca on Monday and I need to gather my resources to study with.

Wow RN1023 you really put into words what many of us are feeling. I am just an LPN but I do work on a med/surg floor at a hospital for a year and a half now and I feel your pain. I think that HouTx hit the nail on the head with management. I have been struggling to get support from my manager since day one and I can't get it. I was recently written up and will probably get another one tomorrow due to lack of support that I am supposed to have that leaves me liable. We give, give, give, and then give some more without acknowledgment from management and then when something goes wrong we hear how inadequate we are and how someone needs to be held accountable....and of course there is never any mention of the welfare of the patient in the matter, only the problem it poses on the hospital. This profession is very stressful by itself and even worse when bad management is in control and unfortunately if you say anything you get retaliated upon. You have a bachelors degree invested in nursing and I am sure a crap load of student loans, don't get too discouraged you went into nursing for a reason. This field has many different positions and I am sure there is something out there for you that will allow you to feel fulfilled. Have you considered working for an insurance company or administration?

I was never told about a "24 hour check" in school or when I had my two weeks of training so it's new to me. I work days so maybe our midnight shift does it. It's not often I see unsigned orders from the previous shift or past 24 hours but it does happen. My issue is if it is legal or not for me to sign even if I date it as the day that I am there and not back dating it. Does that help you understand a little better?

KelRn215, Just to clarify, when an order is placed, our HUC inputs it into the system if its a lab, x-ray,ct, u/s or faxes the order to pharmacy if its a med then it goes on the MAR, I never said that the orders did not get carried out or that I would not carry it out, my concern is with signing for it, as I stated before I was taught in school that you do not sign anything you were not there for. I am new to the hospital setting and have been an LPN for 2 years and just looking for clarification not assumptions. The facility I worked for prior to the hospital setting I really did not see this problem.

NicuGal, we don't go throught the orders at change of shift, we just give report and do bedside rounds, but my last shift (the same day the manager told me this) I had charts with me and went over some of the orders with the oncoming nurse. I think from now on I will do this to protect my self. I think the problem on my floor is that we are over loaded with pts, and are overwhelmed and in all humaness we overlook things. Sometimes I wonder if I am cut out for nursing and how do other nurses overcome this without cutting corners?
