I have a few questions about the LPN to RN program at HCC?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Hello! :) I plan on applying to the LPN to RN program at Hillsborough Community College for the summer of 2015. First I was wondering how competitive it is to gain admissions into the program? My overall GPA will be a 3.2 or 3.3 and my prerequisite GPA is a 3.5, is that good enough for the transition program? Also, I was wondering about the structure of the program. What days, or how many days will we be in clinicals and what days will we be in class? Any information about the program would be helpful, thank you in advance.

Hi there! I see that this post is from April and nobody has replied :(. I don't really have information about the program other than what can be found on the HCC website, but I just turned in my application for the Summer 2015 transition program this past week. Now the waiting game begins...

Did you turn in your application yet?

I applied too. I think that there are two options, one morning classes and one afternoon. Classes are two days a week then one 10 hour clinical day. I'm pretty sure a 3.5 will be okay for this program.

Hi, I know this is an old thread bit just ran across it. I'm finishing up NPIV now which is the last class in the LPN to RN transition at HCC. The lowest pre req GPA admitted to our class was 3.4. The program is very doable. Hardest class so far I think was NPII which you take in the summer. NPIII was a breeze which was OB/Peds and a pysch. NPIV is a little challenging as you only have 10 weeks of class and the remaining time is leadership. Leadership is when you work with a nurse for 2 weeks. Her/his schedule is your schedule. Class 2 days a week. For transition generally Tuesday and Wednesday. Clinical on Thursday or Friday depending on where your assigned. Community service and Sim/lab hours are to be done every semester. Alot of work condensed but very doable as long you do your part. Good luck to all that applied! Can't wait till May to finish! Any questions let me know. Feel free to inbox me.

Thank you for that information! I'm pretty new to this site so I wasn't sure how to inbox you. I think I may need to add you as a friend first?? I don't know. At any rate, I was just wondering how many community service and sim/lab hourse you are expected to do each semester? Congrats on almost being done with the program! I'm ready to get started!

I got my acceptance letter! It doesn't say what time classes are though. I thought we might have an option but I guess not. Yaboyku- do you know the class times or if we get a choice? I was also wondering if I'm supposed to set up the time to get my drug test or do they do it for us? The letter says to send in money for it but no directive on how to get it done.

Hi Ku, what time does the clinical start for the transition program? Also are you able to change your clinical day if you're not able to attend on a thursday or friday? lastly when do you do the sim lab and for how many hours?

I was told that we can do our clinical hours whenever we want. You just have to sign in and sign out of the lab.

Hey! I hadn't been on this thread in a while and just realized that I got a response. I ended up getting an alternate position in the nursing program. God willing I do get into the program. I pretty nervous, but still very hopeful. CONGRATULATIONS!! to those who got in. :nurse::up::)

I got in!! God is great!!

Congratulations Ashley! I can't wait for orientation to meet everyone!
