Help with job searching

Hi everybody

It's anyone live in Port St Lucie or Fort Pierce, FL can help me in my job search. I am a new LPN, and I am new in Port St Lucie. I would like to know if anyone can refer me to any where they are hiring LPN, I need a job so much. I am a single mother, I have been unemployed for a long time. I would like to find a job right away to take care of me and son.

I just graduated from a LPN program, and started a regular ADN program last week (not a bridge program). Most of this semester is looking to be a review of what I learned in LPN school, and I'd like to start working right away!

My school hasn't even sent in the paperwork for the BON to allow me to sit for the NCLEX, let alone even having a date for it.

I researched online just to see who is hiring. In my area of NWOhio, I do know of a nursing SURPLUS just from clinical and precepting experiences. Sure enough, on the sites, in the papers, after the calls...I see places aren't hiring. I heard that Mich, just north of me, is with more of a need for nurses. I can't go too far because I'm in the RN program here, but I'd be willing to go about an hour north. And, again, what I've heard is true. At least employers are responding, but most won't even consider me until I have passed my NCLEX. So, I'm taking my NCLEX and getting my license in Michigan. Also, I did land a job at an Assisted Living facility. I can start asap, as in MI there are different laws compared to LTC, and so the AL doesn't have so much "paperwork" and increased insurance (as they said) if they hire me as a nurse extern. Truly, I'm seeing I'm a glorified aide, though, until I pass my NCLEX! My foot is in the door, though, and in this economy, we are having to sometimes be creative to survive, I'm seeing. It really is frustrating, as a year ago, I could look in any paper and find job opps for LPNs. VERY rare anymore, at least in NW Ohio. And, no hospital is hiring.

I don't know if you've passed the NCLEX, or just graduated, but assuming since you said you are a new LPN, prob did pass the NCLEX. Anyway, broaden your thinking, cause most likely your classmate new grads are doing the same thing as you'd be doing at the local hospitals and nursing homes. Instead, make visits with your resume, accept almost any position at a place you'd like to work (YOU will be the first to get the slot of any open LPN position when it comes up), and travel a little (my limit, as said, an hour, but that's HUGE for me) as that misleading but popular concept of a NURSING SHORTAGE (!!!) is very regional.
