What is special about a bridge program? Scenario: Someone has been a LVN for a couple of years and wants to become an RN. How is entering into a bridge program different from entering into a regular program? Is it just that it will only take two years rather than 4?

The bridge programs in my area are shorter. Instead of a 4 semester ADN program, it only takes 2 semesters (plus summer school) to earn your ADN. This is at the community college, which requires that the prereqs are already completed. Many of my friends and colleagues attend private Lvn to RN programs that take about 1.5-2 yrs to finish--incl prereqs. So a grand total of 3 yrs to get to ADN.

The other thing that makes the bridge "special" is the fact that you can earn Lvn wages while completing your RN. This is a much higher paying wage than one makes as a Cna

Is that the same for BSN? I meant to say BSN.
