Anybody with info on LPN to RN mobility program at Snead State Community College

Was wondering if anyone was currently or had attended Snead State Community College's LPN to RN mobility program online and how it was. I heard even the test were online and that you only had to do 90 hrs preceptorship. Does anyone know, do you have to go to the campus if you are doing online. Was just wondering, am hoping to get accepted into a mobility program in Spring and wanted more info.

I have been attending SSCC since Jan 09. I am dropping it this week. Let me say FIRST, I didn't expect the online program to be easy. I expected to have to work my butt off. But In my opinion, this online program is not set up for success. They start for 40 seats for students. And appears the goal is to get as many out of the program each semester as possible. We starte with 37. Of that 37 about 10 are passing (and that's with the highest grade being a B) and the final is Friday. MOST students are right on the boderline or below and praying they passed the exam today going into the final. Spring semester is review Nsg 200. It was challenging getting accustomed to online program but the instructor was helpful, supportive and wanted to see everyone succeed. This summer was Nsg 201. There were 7 weeks. We had 90 hours of clinicals to complete. Each clinical requires 11 pages of clinical papers that must be turned in timely. (No grade for them). Each unit has corresponding video lectures you may view (appox. 2-3 hours long). You are also given powerpoints that correspond with the lectures (about 200 pages per unit). You are given about 2 or 3 discussion questions with each unit that you have to reply too (no grade). You are expected to read 3 hours in your book per 1 hour of video lecture per unit. You have a teaching project to write up in APA format (no grade). If you fail an exam, you are required to write a summary "remediation paper" or you are not allowed to take the next exam. (no grade). Oh, so you wonder how do you earn your grade.... well you have 4 exams and 1 final. The exam material is very very broad so you have to study all the material given in great detail to cover unexpected material for the exam. You are not given study guides or focal points.

Fall semester they will have 135 hours worth of clinical to do in 12 weeks. And then the Spring semester is even more hours.

YES, I'm bitter. I have worked my butt off to get into this program so that I could continue to work and support my kids. But I have felt penalized every day this summer semester that I work 12 hours a day and have to take care of my kids. So honestly, if you can't spend 8-10 hours ago studying and doing paperwork that you don't get credit for...... SERIOUSLY think this through. Oh, all of those assignments that I mentioned that you don't get credit for... they are NOT opitional. If you don't do them, your are placed out of the program.

Thanks for your input!! I was wondering how they were. I too have to continue to work full time and take care of 3 kids to complete my RN. I am planning applying to two colleges though, one of them being SSCC. If I do get accepted to the other one, I may do them. They offer a hybrid program with instruction and testing one night a week, of course with your clinicals starting the second semester. I'm so glad you responded back with your opinion. I feel like I only have one chance to do this and I may just have to be broke for a half a year or so until I finish.

Oh, man! That school sounds just impossible. In my experience with online education, you do at least double the work of B&M schools, and yet people still think you are doing fluff and bobo work. Sigh.

Well...I started in the SSCC mobility in Jan. also. I have gotten my butt kicked also. I was borderline, but luckily i passed by the skin of my teeth. I am actually scared to death going into this next semester, just hopefully it will help that it is longer. The syllabus looks a little better. You have to do whatever you have to do. I work full-time, but only have a 1yo.

I have applied for snead for SPR 2009 semester. Can you tell me how many students are accepted for trk 1 and trk 2?

so curious to as if anyone else has any experiences with snead's program?

I"m debating on if I should do the online program there, or at Calhoun (they are offering online spring2011), or go for the classes options.

Anyone have advice?

Jeener, did you end up finishing up at Snead? Pros and Cons?

Is this impossible with a fulltime job?

I know this is kind of an old post, but... I finished the snead program last may and passed the nclex first try. It was very difficult and huge amount of work, but, it is possible to make it. Good luck.

I'm glad you posted it nursejoy, I have been searching for anyone with information also on the program, and this is a good forum to get feedback from people with different situations. Overall, how was your experience with the program?
