ADN or BSN or MSN (LA county)

So I am in a total dilemma here.

I've got my LVN license (no experience yet) and I just don't know what pathway to take.

I know that I can get into LA county's LVN to ADN program for sure, and I know it is a great program. The problem is, after I graduate with my ADN, all the ADN to BSN programs are at least 2 years long!

So I'm wondering if I should just start over and go straight to BSN or entry level MSN?

I will have a non-nursing bachelors in Fall 2015, I know there are a lot of accelerated BSN programs...so that is also an option.

I guess I'm just wondering if I should go for LA county since I have more than enough points or if I should gamble and try for a bachelors later.

Anyone from LA county nursing program have any input? Did you get a job right away? Did you go for a BSN?

If you got your ADN then go to BSN it's 3 years but the BSN programs are also 3 years. A lot of places will pay for you to get your BSN if you're already working as an ADN. Since you said you already have your bachelors the entry level masters might be an option (csula) or accelerated bachelors but you might not have as much time learning in a clinical setting. I knew someone who had a bachelors and went to msmc accelerated BSN and only was in the program for 11 months. To me that's way too short of time to learn anything.

I'm applying to la county for January. I hear their clinicals are like no other

I guess I am just second guessing myself, I've heard so many good things about LA county!

I really want to go there but from research it seems like having your ADN is a roadblock.

I guess I'm wondering if new grads from County get hired right away? I mean if I can work while getting my BSN then I don't have a problem going to la county...but it seems like it's tough to get a job with just an adn. So I'm wondering if LA county changes that because it is such a reputable program?

When I went to the info session this problem was addressed. There's this "rumor" that all hospitals are trying to become magnet status and only hire bsn nurses; however, in SoCal there are only a handful of nursing programs that offer a straight BSN program. A lot of this is coming from the east coast where they have a buttload of BSN programs.

I do not think this is something we really have to worry about right now unless you wanna work for cedars.

If you go on job sites like indeed you can see the plethora of jobs for nurses in this "nursing job shortage" and only a tiny amount want BSN's

Thank you again for the info! I am still going to apply to LA county and see how it all goes. Have you seen a thread for nurses that have graduated from LA county? I'm searching for one but can't seem to find it. I want to know what they are doing after the program is done, if you don't know of one it's okay, I'll keep looking:) Thank you again!
