I was very nervous before my first round of clinicals too. I'm now finishing my 3rd round and enjoy it very much. I keep several items with me for reference:

* LPN Pocket Guide

* Drug Book

* Drug Cards

The first few days of clinicals (regardless of how many times I've been out), I always feel out of place. Until I learn the surroundings and where things are, I always feel in the way.

My advice to you ... find a nurse who you admire how they work (the way they perform their job duties as well as how they treat the patients) and try to learn from that person. I have learned so much being in the field. Try to get all the experiences you can. Watch all the procedures you can watch, even if you can't perform them as an LPN; you will still need to know how to take care of the pt after the procedure.

Good luck at clinicals. It is a lot of fun!!

Blank index cards in particular the post it note brand ones are good as they come in a little pad you can peel off. Your stethoscope and watch and pen light ( someone will forget I promise so make sure its not you) My palm has been really useful but a drug book tabers and pocket lpn guide are also useful. A million black pens as someone will always take yours if you have only 1.
