Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

HELLO! I'm new to this! I currently applied to the Tennessee Technology Center @ Shelbyville, for the Nursing Program. Has anyone taken this course? I will find out end of July if I'm accepted. What is the class like? Is it as hard as everyone says it is? What is the best thing to be studying/reading over the summer? I'm sooo excited, and just hate the anticipation of waiting to find out if im in or not! :nurse:

Thanks for any information!

Apparently each campus has their own policies...

The math final MUST be 81 at Chatt State or you are out, doesn't matter what you've made on any other tests.

We do have finals, in every subject during first semester. In 2nd semester we will have a systems final, drug final, and nutrition final. They count for 30% of our grade.

I made all As in 1st semester. This semester I've made a handful of Bs, but mostly As. It is possible. Each person has their own learning style and I've actually changed my ways throughout the semesters.

I'm now using my laptop and making powerpoints. It helps me to stay focused when I'm studying because my attention span seems to be getting worse as the semester goes on.

Another poster is right, try to make high grades at the beginning so you aren't worried at the end. The stress is bad enough, you don't need the extra stress.

That's another thing, I have 3 kids and I'm a single mom. My stress levels have never been as high as they are now. But even the single, kidfree classmates are dealing with high stress levels.

Single mom with 3 kids....and you're making good grades! That's motivation for me right there!!!!!

You're doing a fine job!!!

Thank you for all the information - i can't wait to post about my first day!

Did ya'll start with PVR? Do you have any notes or anything on that? for me to read over...

Not sure what PVR is...so I will say no. We started with everything. A&P, nutrition, vocational relationship, fundamentals (micro), all at the same time. There really was no reading ahead for us because they didn't even start with Chapter 1, someone from the previous class gave me that advice before I wasted my time.

I did study the syllabus, it had some vocabulary words that I started learning.

PVR is practical vocational relations.......sorry!

Well I got some notes from another girl, I've been reading those. I did take A&P 1 and 2 last year, so I've been reading over that.........

I'm just so ready to BEGIN!

Do you think I'll get the syllabus at orientation?

We had to buy ours at the bookstore...it was called the "oscar".

Vocational relations was one of our first tests.

I will be starting TTC Jacksboro on Sept 1st and the advisor told us that we will only be learning 1 subject at a time. I think that it will make it a lot easier, maybe a little boring, but easier because we won't have to remember so many different things at once. I am very nervous and scared of the unknown, but excited also. I just wish they gave you more information before class so that you would know what to expect. What is everyones requirements for their stethoscope and shoes?

Thanks!

TN Tech., Harriman, TN here....new student starting Sept 1 and know we will be tested often, but what tests are given the first week of school? i can't imagine a test every day when we first start? What could it be over? Other than the material they gave us in orientation? Please, does anyone know? I am studying things, already taken A&P I but made a C. Need to update myself on it and get it down better.!!!! Want a study group, anyone reading this want to start one with me? I need help!

Happy and excited and getting organized here!

We started a facebook group for my class. We used it a lot during first semester but barely touched it during 2nd. By 2nd semester we had all formed our little groups and knew who to go to for help so it wasn't needed as much.

Reviewing A&P is a good idea since it's the foundation for each of your systems.

I am having an issue. I have applied to the LPN program for fall, and my moms friend just decided to tell her that it is a horrible school and I shouldn' t go there. She said it wasn't certified which I am not sure what she means. But I have read nothing but great things and it is accredited through the TN State Board of Nursing, well that is what I read. So can someone please help me out.

Hi agronning...I currently attend class at the college, it is very fast paced! I can tell you its a good program to do, but there it has its perks and down sides to everything.....I like the instructors...I like the school but here it is....it does not allow recording in class of the instructors lectures, as some other schools do...it does not have online internet for your own personal computer, other schools do, it does not have mics at the desks to hear better, but the class is not huge as in some schools.....but it does offer a more intimate classroom experience.

Hope this helps....by the way...I graduate soon.
