Is It Possible To Take Micro At A Cc. While In A Lvn Program?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

i'm going to a cc for the rn program there and is done with all my g.e. and pre-reqs required for the adn, however, i just need to take one more class and that's micro  ... but the thing is, since it's very hard to get into the adn program and it's a lottery, i wouldn't have any idea how long it will actually take for me to get accepted...

so i'm deciding to take the lvn program at a vocational nursing school starting this august '06 while also finishing my micro at the cc (for the fall semester). the lvn program will be m-th (w/ some fri.) from 7a.m. - 4p.m. for 15 months

is this a good idea or bad idea ? is there anyone else in a lvn program who are taking other courses at another college??

I think my LVN program is similar to yours. It's full time, and about 13 months long. In the first term (when you are thinking of taking micro), we cover nursing process, math, anatomy/physio, and pharmacology. I believe other LVN programs start out with the same subjects.

A few of our classmates have dropped out, unfortunately. The program is a quite a commitment, and some find they don't have room in their lives for so much school and study. However, since you've already completed your prereqs, I would check to see if you can get some of the basic courses in your LVN program excused. Or, if nothing else, the material will be review and it will be easier for you.

I've thought of taking some prereqs at night at a CC myself, but I could not take one at this time (we're doing anatomy/physio at the moment). It's not difficult, just a lot of work. I hope that later on when we're in clinicals, the academic load might calm down enough so that I can take a prereq at night. We'll see. :)

Good luck to you!

I finished prereqs for the ADN program while in the LPN program. I took Developmental psych and chemistry along w/ my first semester in LPN school. I took both a+p's and two other courses the summer after LPN school and directly before starting the RN program in the fall. Micro is pretty hard, but it can be done if you are determined. Do you have any break between semesters in the LPN program? Any summer breaks? If so it would be best to do it then. I only worked part time (15 hours a week) while doing the LPN program along w/ the ADN prereqs. I had no free time. I did get all A's but that wouldn't have happened if I had to work full time. Do you work? What are your family obligations? Do you care for young children, elderly parents, grandparents or a dependent spouse? Those things are a big determining factor if this will work for you. It would be nice to fill the void of waiting with the LPN program. It will make the RN program less stressful if you already know some of the material. It also gives you a way to make a decent wage while in school to be an RN. Good luck in what you decide.
