Hello all,

I began nursing school last Monday. SO far I'm lost in Theory. I cannot retain the info that I read pertaining to the different theorists or anything. I have made notecards but I believe that I may have too many to focus. I'm confused. Please Help.

hi, i think i can help you.

have 3 ring binder for each class. 3' for A and P, 4" for fundamentals, and 1" for each of your smaller classes. have s sturdy bag. luggage quality is good. you need to focus on understanding concepts rather than memorization. when you get home from class, review the material you covered in class that day. then preview the next day;s material. stay organized and put the time in. youll probably need a 4 to 5 hour block everynight to do this. especially since classes are 5 days a week until you get to clinicals. if your books, esp a&p comes with a workbook, use it, every day with that chapters your studying.

pm me when you get to clinical i can show you how to organize yourself there. if you put the time in, you'll do fine. just keep pluggin away at it, and it will click, i promise.

Hello,

Thanks a billion. It seems that I might be able to make it afterall. I'm still very nervous. I'm fairly new to this posting stuff, how do I PM you. I know what it means but I don't know exact;y how to do it, if this isn't it. I tried to copy your name so that I may send the Prv. Msg and this may work as it, not sure until I send it but if not, send me one, and I'll surley respond. thanks again!

you're gonna make it just fine. I did the 3 ring binder too and it worked. Worry about your subjects one test at a time. Figure out what chapters are being covered on your next tests and read those chapters as early as you can, even before the first lecture if possible. Then, you're at least familiar with what the lecture will cover.

First semester can be the dryest semester, or it was for me. Stay organized. If you're like me, you'll figure that you can read/review/study at home, and once you get there, the tv goes on, the family distracts you, and you take a 2hr break. I would go home after class, take a nap and then get up and go to the library for a few hours. It was kind of like playing a sport. you just have to make yourself go to practice...or in our case, study.

Don't get overwhelmed by the amount of material you have to study....remember, it's just one test at a time. Put in at least 2-3hrs/day for studying, and more when you need it. For me.....this little recipe got me a 4.00GPA in my LVN school.

I hated study groups. I did better by dissecting my book and going over it by myself. Our study groups often turned into social parties and i didn't have time for it.

And yes, I did all this and managed a weekend job too!

Good luck, you'll do great!

I have the same issue and I have tried various ways but so far I am not sure what is effective. I need some help on this too.

For me, flashcards are the way to go. I break it down by one subject at a time & write up the cards. I keep quizzing myself over & over until I know I've got it down. Then, move on to the next subject area. I keep the cards organized so if I ever need to go back & freshen up in a certain area, I can.

Thanks so much for the information and I will try that because it is getting more and more amped and we are speeding thru information which is making me want to pull my hair out but I am taking it one step at a time.
