Need a seasoned nurse and new grad to interview

I am a new LPN student and one of our first assignments is to interview a seasoned nurse and also a new to the field nurse. Tell me like it is! Please feel free to discuss and share your thoughts on the thread. I need at least one nurse that has been out there a little while and also a new grad to answer all the questions so that I can turn in my assignment.

1) What is something you've learned in the field that you hadn't in school?

2) What was something that surprised you about being a nurse?

3) What's the number one mistake that new nurses make?

4) What would be your best advice for a new student/nurse?

5) What area have you enjoyed working in the most?

6) What should I expect from a nursing position?

7) How many hours per a week do you work on a normal basis? What is the most difficult shift to work?

8) How happy are you with your choice to become a nurse?

9) How long have you been a nurse?

I hope to get some great and honest answers. For those that choose to answer the full list of questions I will need your real name and title so if you would prefer to send it in a private message that is fine. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

The standard response to this type of question is that this type of assignment is to force you to go out and talk to people face-to-face vs asking some stranger on the internet (who might not even be a nurse) to type out answers, including their real name, to a list of questions...

No one has to answer if they don't wish. I have friends and family that are nurses so I have people I can ask. I'm looking to develop a diverse view on nursing. Posting this thread on allnurses is just one of the ways I am interviewing. After all is this site not about growing our knowledge, building professional relationships, and expanding our resources?

I get what you're saying, but online interviewing on this site is viewed as asking other people to do your homework for you. I'm not saying that's what you're doing. Just telling you what every other interview requestor gets told. If you were to search "interview a nurse" or something similar I am sure you will find many threads which include posts from GrnTea and Esme explaining why no one on this site will do the interview for you. If you have family that are nurses, it would be best to interview them. Most of the time, the point of these assignments is to get you to go out in the field and develop communication skills by in person interviewing. Having someone type out the answers so you can quote or summarize defeats that whole purpose. But congrats on starting LPN school and GL.

I have two other interviews that's not online set up and am working on more. I didn't realize this would bother people. I was just hoping to gain some knowledge from some people that are not so close to where I live. Maybe even make a few friends. I'm not sure I can delete a thread but I'll see what I can do about getting rid of this.

We love to help woth homework! However, many of the members, myself included, believe that the purpose of these assignments is to get the student out of their comfort zone in speaking face to face with real strangers. The interview process is vital to nursing and is a skill that is accomplished by practice. Many of the members are instructors and have very strong feelings about this assignment not being accomplished online. Some schools don't feel this way...but many of us believe this is doing the student a disservice.

Our goal is to help ALL nursing students become the best nurse they can be...to promote the best in the profession.

Allnurses is an anonymous site. Many of our members value that anonymity and are not likely to give you their real names and information. How do we know you really are a student asking for personal information? I am sure you are....but there is no guarantee. How do you know of the person responding is really a nurse?

I'm guessing you didn't read all of what I had shared. I understand that we need to go outside our comfort zone and be able to speak with others in person. This is not a problem for me. I'll talk to a thousand people in person if that is what is needed. I won't continue to argue my point because I see I'm beating a dead horse. I'm sorry I ever even tried to include the allnurses community however I did learn some powerful lessons.

I am only a nursing student and wish I could help you with this! I surely would. I don't understand what the problem is if someone would at least try to help... They could do it in a private message! I see threads where other people are recommended ways to beat drugs tests and things but we won't fill out an interview for a nursing student? Seems backwards to me! I understand what everyone is saying that the OP needs to go out and interview others outside of their comfort zone and we cannot do "homework for him"... I guess I know now that I shouldn't come here for help with all things nursing related.

I don't see how this is doing your homework for you... I do see where the previous poster would be coming from with face to face interview. I would help if I could, I graduate August 21. So I'm not a new nurse yet.
