Hello, I was wondering if anyone who has went to Mildred Elley's in NYC info session, taking the exam, can please give me more insight on the program? I called ACICS to make sure they were an accrediting school , and they are. Yes, it's true, they are currently an extension of the Albany school and are accredited. That out of the way. How was the exam? Difficult? What areas should I focus on studying? I took the entrance exam at SW Boces and failed bad in the reading comprehension part and I am very nervous. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks.

I have taken the entrance exam at the Albany campus. I was very nervous but did well, I would sudgest you to google accuplacer and click on Compass because that is closest to the test they use. When I first did the practice test I didn't do so well but with practicing I got much better. I do not believe I would have done so well if I didn't practice on that site. Take some time before you go to the school and take the exam to practice. I did and when I went to take it only took me 1/12 hours and I did very well. I came to this same site for info before and I just took the test 2 weeks ago so I thought I would give you some advice so you do pass it and finally are able to be on your way to a nurse. I start the weekend classes end of july I actually live in Boston but only community colleges offer lpn and it takes 2 years so I am going to relocate so I can finish and do a lpn to rn program. Justa little motivation do not give up try again.

Thank you. I am going to look into that site. Is it true that it's not timed? How is the scoring? They just opened one in NYC and It's perfect for me. I just need to get in. I checked there accreditions and try check out. They accept financial aid so that's a plus as well. Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything I am writting because you know firsthand. Please keep me posted on your studies and i will with mine if your interested. I wanna know everything about this program.

The areas for the Compass exam you shoul pay attention to are the reading,sentence skill, and math. The area in math I would sudgest is pre-algebra. You have to score about 60 in reading 33 in sentences and 25 in math. Very reasonable and doable if someone couldnot pass above those scores I would be worried about them being able to comprehend a nursing corriculum. You should just call set up an appointment get the information and set a test date and study the accuplacer for a little while. I was like you so nervous I drove myself crazy just do it and get in so you can set your mind at ease. Just read every question 2 or 3 times so yo really understand what is being asked of you. You will do fine, let me know how everything goes. Now I am just so anxious to start I still have another month before class starts.

I actually passed on going. I decided to take the baby steps route and start as a CNA. I registered with Manhattan Institue. Have you heard of them? Any feedback you would like to share. I figure I will do their 4wk CNA course, go back pick up PCT then go for LPN. What do you think. Keep in mind I have four children and this pace kinda works for me. I was even considering, if feasible and correct me if you know better, going for PA. What do you think? Also, I was considering CMA, however I don't want to do anything clerical so I ruled that out. Should I have?

I don't suggest the Medical Assisting course unless it is $2000 or less. Most of them are employed in doctor's offices, which may not be a bad thing, but these programs crank out MAs like water, however, the Medical Assistant can really be trained on the job. Also, they don't make a great deal of money.

The CNA/PCT course is really a combination of what medical assistants can do, anyhow. And, you'll learn basic skills that come in handy with nursing such as phlebotomy and EKG interpetation. Good luck!

Thank You. Do you know of the Manhatan Institute? My Plan is to get work experience as well as pick up as many trades within the nursing field I can. I am willing and am selfmotivated.

No, I don't. Where is it located? I do live in the New York Metropolitian area, but I'm not sure if I heard of that particular school. If it is one of those rip off trade schools, I would beware, however. Many community colleges also offer Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician/Associate classes. Where are you located? The community colleges I am aware of that offer CNA, PCT/PCA are Queensboro Community College, York College (4 year school, which also offers a Medical Assisting Course that I believe-but not certain is about $3000), and Queens College. Check out their continuing education departments and see what they have to offer.

I just wanted to let you know do what you feel will be the best for you and your 4kids because I do not know enough about you. But what I will say is it is easier to take cna or similar courses but what is your goal salary. I in the past did CNA than I went to school for Medical Billing and have been doing it ever since. But I decided to stop going around what I wanted to do and just do it. I want LPN is not by far the best salary but you are half way to a nurse and you can take you time to beome an RN. I know it won't be easy for me I have to take a pay cut to move from Boston to Alabny but in the long run I will be much better off. You have 4kids now is the time to do the nursing if that is what you really want. Do cna while in school for lpn MildredElley has a very flexible schedule. wieigh your options, don't just give up just yet nothing worth having is easy and you will be rewarded in the end.

Plus it gives me a chance to feel out the field. I reall want to go to this school in Westchrster, SW Boces. Their LPN program is perfect for me. I'm gonna go for that next year. In most cases, financial aid doesn't cover for continuing education courses (at least none that I am aware of). You don't have to be a student enrolled to take any continuing ed classes.
