Lvn program- new student help

hi i am hopefully starting the lvn program this fall.. i have heard that i should just wait and go straight to the rn program instead of doing the lvn then lvn-rn program.. I am doing the lvn program first to get my foot in so hopefully i can get into the rn program. i was wondering if any of the veteran nurses had any thoughts or words of wisdom to pass on about this and about nursing school in general?

Hello! i am a student that is in a lpn program i graduate on december 18th, I did it this way because the school i wanted to go to for RN had over a year waiting list and i was done my pre reqs and did not want to wait, also i wanted to be able to work in the field and i start my RN classes in january. I know some people disagree with doing it this way but it will not take me long to get my RN bc my pre reqs are all done, hope this helped you, good luck!

The route you are taking is the same one I am taking. All my pre-reqs are not done yet. But I start my LPN program in Jan 09 at a private school. I plan to bridge over as soon as i graduate. I choose this route because I can not afford to sit on a waiting list for more then a year. I understand that I will pay a high price for being able to get right to it, and I dont mind. I have one goal and one goal only to be an RN and I will do whatever it takes to get there. So I wish you the best of luckon your journey.

Yea that is my situation. i will be doing a and p one and psych in spring.. and our lvn has no pre req's except high gpa and test score.. and ill be done with pre req's by summer i just dont want to wait a year if i can get into a program immediately and just do a lvn to rn afterwards.. i have had people tell me this is a bad idea and other say they would have never done it another way

Every one is different. I am doing the LVN to BSN route. I have all my pre-recs done....well minus 2....for the BSN program but I want to the LVN route because:

1. I can only go part time with traditional classes and it have taken me forever to get the pre reqs done.

2. I can work full time and complete the LVN program.

3. I can get my foot in the door and have the company that I work for (HCA) pay for my lvn - rn while working full.

If you fell that this path is right for you then do it!!! Trust me people still use LVN's. The lady I work with is a LVN working full time in L&D and is loving every minute of it.
