Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to all nurses and I must say the forum is great based on some of the threads I have read. So I'm supposed to be starting my PN program in august depending on if I got a spot in the program. This will be my second time starting the program. A couple of years back I started the same program but had to drop after 3 months in due to a high risk pregnancy so I'm starting over. I'm kind of nervous because the last time I tried I wasn't fully focused on the program due to everything else I had going on. Now I'm ready to jump into it, fully focused. Anyone have advice they would love to share about their experiences so far? The way I see it, any positive advice is good for me.

Congrats and big kudos for getting back in there. I did the LPN program in Az two years ago and found it challenging,but well worth. I had already worked in a variety of setting in healthcare for 12 years prior to LPN, so I had an easier time with it. My main advise would be that when u start your clinicals to be very proactive, ask questions and make sure u are available to do as many procedures as possible. I noticed many of the students were too scared to try anything, and did nothing during clinicals, but paperwork. Patient care is so important to work on in clinicals, while you have a safety net, once out of school and working on your license the safety net is much,much smaller. Good luck and enjoy it!

I'm starting an LPN program here in the Metro-Detroit area after sitting on a waitlist for an RN program, then getting into a program that wasn's accredited by anyone except the state board, and I plan to continue by education in the Nursing field so that was important to me. You have to stay focused, have faith, stay strong, and remember the ultimate goal.

Just wanted to tell you good luck! I started as a CNA then LPN, then recently (past 3-4 yrs) have worked towards my AAS in Nursing and then my BSN and currently my MSN. You can only go as far as you are willing to push yourself and do that work! One day at a time, one step at a time! I loved my LPN experience!

Thanks guys! This time around I really have my focus hat on. I have absolutely nothing standing in my way....as of right now anyway. I don't think that I'm scared just nervous to finally get in and go through the whole thing. I am currently a medical assistant working at a state facility for individuals with developmental challenges so I can handle the clinical work. I just know that the on program is much more intense than MA school. I just found out that I will be starting the program August 25 if nothing comes in between that. I'm in Louisiana where are some of you from? What materials are you guys reading up on or going to purchasing for school?

I live in Arizona, should be entering into RN block 3 in August. Just took the PN exit again after two years of being out of nursing school,was nervous but scored over 1000, so am happy bout that. It is great that you already have experience in medical field will help you a lot. I started as CNA for 5 years,EMT for 2 years, combat medic for 6 years and LPN for 2, soon to be RN. Hopefully before I am retirement age. Sure you will do fine in school,study hard and enjoy it!

Does anyone have any advice about working during a LPN program? I know it's intense but I really need to earn some money. Have you heard of anyone working?

Staying focused is the biggest, most important thing about nursing school in my opinion. It is just too easy to get distracted and become lazy. When I started my LPN program, I told myself that I will focus and sacrifice things to accomplish nursing school. I have sacrificed a lot of hours from work and a lot of time going out with friends. I am only 22 and trust me when I say, I love going out. Still trying to get pass that young, wild, and free phase. Hahaha. I think another important thing is to have a good balance with school and your everyday life. Goodluck, you'll do great! :)

I am currently working and doing my LPN program and a lot of my classmates are doing the same thing. It's definitely possible. I just suggest working part-time because you will need a lot of time for homework and studying.

@enatural what were your scores for tcat- memphis currently waiting til July 14 deadline then the waiting came to see if accepted how was your interview?

I made a 96 on the English and 77 on the math. I studied math but not the right kind. Luckily I passed. I wanted a higher score but it worked out. My interview went well. They asked the expected questions and I held my own. I'm super excited. If you get in when will you start? I start Sept. 2. Good luck!
