Just accepted into LVN program that starts next Monday!

I can't believe I was accepted as it is a waitlist first come program and I was specifically told a month ago that I would not be accpeted as twenty people would have to turn down their spots and that NEVER happens. Anyways today I just got a phone call saying I was accpeted!

The bad news is the school is two hours away and my car is in no shape for that kind of commute. I don't know what to do! Should I pack my bags and move to a new town in one week? The school has a daycare my kids are accepted into that will work till clinicals start. I am having a really tough time finding a job and have not been in school for almost two years so this is something I really want to happen!

I just don't know how to fund moving since I won't get financial aid until two weeks after the term starts and I have no money saved up at the moment. Any suggestions?

Is there another session starting at a later date? One week is not enough time for you to be able to figure out all of those things. I'm not trying to downcast your dreams but I'm being realistic. Perhaps you can get all of that figured out and aim to start the program in the next session. Since you've already been admitted, I'm sure the school will have no issue with rolling your file over into the next semester. That way you have a more reasonable time frame to figure out your arrangements.

The program only starts once per year in the fall. I have my kids in the daycare (I forgot to take them off the waitlist when I was told I would not get in a month ago). I have all ready applied to financial aid and have a fee waiver. I have to pay for a few books upfront but might get my parents to help with that then EOPS will pay for the rest of my books and I will get some financial aid. I just need to find a cheap apartment and rent a moving truck and drive the two hours there!

So what were your plans if you got accepted earlier? How were you going to get there since it is 2 hours away? Not trying to be sarcastic, just curious. Perhaps you can try to suck it up and drive until you get your financial aid. OR if your lucky, maybe when you start classes you can get lucky and find someone to carpool with. Then during that time until financial aid comes in you can look for places to stay. But if it were me I wouldn't move (too much hassle, too uncertain, and too stressful) I think you would be better off just getting a new car.

I was staying at my parents and moved to my own place a month ago. I moved here when the director told me there was no chance of getting in being so far down the waitlist. If I had not called and was not told that I would have kept waiting to move. I moved right after being told that that many students never get turned away, give up their spots and that every one who was going to be accepted has been notified, etc. I chose to move here because it is in a city with more job opportunities than in the small town the college is in.

If I could afford a new car I would get one! I study best by listening to recorded lectures and then recording myself giving a synopsis of my notes so being stuck in a car a few hours a day wouldn't bother me. However my car would probably die half way over the mountain on the way home the first day...

Darn that sucks! I know how difficult it is to apply and then be accepted off of a waitlist. I was waitlisted as well and then got accepted and my school gave me 2 days to come up with $1500 to register and hold my seat. I wish you the best of luck and I hope your situation works itself out. Perhaps you can apply for a private loan? I have no clue when it would be disbursed but PNC bank has a great loan for healthcare providers. Thanks I'll check out that link. I'm trying to find a subletter for my place since there are a lot of people moving here for school in the next couple of weeks. There are two private universites that don't have nursing programs here and one that does as well as a community college so there are quite a few people looking to 'sublet for the school year'. Hopefully one of them will work out and I'll get my deposit back and be able to use that to rent a much smaller place, after all when will I be home to enjoy a big house during the next year;P

Ugh my landlord says they don't approve sub leases so I would be responsible for the remainder of my lease! I called after finding two girls that are moving here this weekend for the private U and they wanted to rent my house. I don't think breaking my lease would be worth it to go to school! But if I rented a new place before my lease was 'broken' at the end of the month... hmm that's a bad idea right?

Now I'm pondering if there is any way to commute to the school. Like get my car fixed and drive to the town the school was in and stay there a couple of nights a week so I didn't have to drive four hours each day. I'm guessing I could find someone in the program who wouldn't mind having a study buddy. I really don't think I could handle driving four hours a day and then being in class five hours a day for four days a week!

I have a plan but it doesn't seem to be working out! My mom had promised me that she would let me use her Prius to commute to nursing school so I told her how my car was not running well and I needed to get it fixed since she wasn't letting me use her car afterall. I was hoping she would let me borrow money to fix it but instead she suggested I move back in with her and apply to the school nearest her (1.5 hours away) and try to go next fall! I'm getting so discouraged and starting to think that this isnt' going to work out!
