I am not the type to run and jump but have been throughly researching and rethinking my decision to start nursing school in the fall. I have a lot riding on this decision: I am married, with children, and a job. How will all of this fall into place and what will suffer because of this decision? So much to consider . . .

Nursing school is FULL TIME. whew. But then, comes the work after school.

How much time will I spend doing homework per night? Of course, it will vary, depending on the program and depending on what type of learner (and do-er) I am.

But, on average, what am I looking at?

Yes, nursing school is full-time with 2-4 hours of studying/ homework per night (some days significantly more if there is a test or 2 the next day or a big care plan/ paper due).

One of the rules I was taught about college classes is to expect to spend 2-3 hours per week outside of class studying per credit. So for a 3 credit course, I would expect to spend 3 hours in the classroom plus an additional 6-9 hours outside of the classroom for a total of 9-12 hours per week. I've found that I actually need a little bit more than that with my MSN classes, but that average was fine for my BSN.
