I was wondering if anyone can provide some input on my situation. I am currently living in NY, Long Island and just had a baby in June. I would like to start a LPN program in March 2007 for 18 months. Its is 4 days a week 6-10pm and 2 saturdays a month for clinicals. I need to work so my job is offering me to work at home 3 days a week and then 2 days in the office. I did apply to other schools for the RN program and I did not get accepted in any. I dont understand why because I do have a GPA of a 3.5 with my business degree and havng some nursing classes already taken. I am not sure if I should go through with this. My dream is to become a nurse and this is the only way I can do it. I am just afraid that it will be too much to handle with a baby and a full time job.

talk to the people at suffolk community college they have an ADN program and its inexpensive. talk to a live person. there is no reason you shouldn't be able to do it... also there are programs called masters entry programs that you can apply for... all you need is a bachelors degree in some other field and the prereqs and you end up with an RN and a masters degree... something to look into... check out the site http://www.allnursingschools.com hope that helps. Don't waste your time doing an LPN program if you really want to do the RN.

Thanks. I did apply for Suffolk and did not get accepted. My A&P II class was not high enough to get me in. I am in the process of trying to talk to them to see if I can take the class over again and then apply for the program. I just dont want to waste anymore time doing this. I feel that I can take more classes to get my GPA high enough but then what if I dont get accepted. Its so frustrating.

have you tried SUNY Downstate? they have a program just for people with BS/BA degrees.

if you've tried all your options for RN programs there's nothing wrong with doing your LPN first. i was kinda in the same situation, execept when i finally got into a RN program i was pregnant and didnt think i could handle it. so i went to LPN school and i dont regret it at all.

RN programs are very competitive, and the school that I attended in New York had about 40-60 seats and most of the students had a GPA of at least 3.7 and above. I'd take look into seeing if you can repeat anatomy, look into other schools and if not, you can start as an LPN and then enter into Helene Fuld, which is located in Manhattan for the RN (they only take LPN-RN...you have to be an LPN already in order to enter into their program). There, you have to take an entrance exam and then take THEIR chemistry class (even if you took it somewhere else) in order to begin their nursing classes. You say that you have anatomy, they will probably accept it, without making you repeat if the credits are not too old.

Are you thinking of attending VEEB? The schedule of the school sounds very familiar.
