Hi everyone,

I would like to get into the LVN program @ East Los Angeles occupational center. Do you know this program? How hard to get in? Does anyone in the program? Any imformation will be appreciated.

even though is has been quite a while you asked, I will answer your question, since I just graduated from that program this year. You have to first apply (and there is only limited applications, about 400), then you take a test (math, reading, and comprehension), then, if your reading level is higher than 10th grade and math level higher than 9th grade, you will be interviewed and then you have to wait for letter in the mail that will let you know if you are in the program. they only accept 30 students and 10 alternates per year. It is a great program but it is also very challenging.

hello CHINITA310,

i know your message was from last year, but still :o), i was wondering, if you can tell me some pointers, about the whole process of the lvn program at East LA? What usually happens after you take the assessment test?? is it really just a whole waiting game like what you just mentioned, that after the assessment test, you get interviewed, would that be the interview, where they set up with the counselor?? is that the same?? any reply would be very much appreciated :o) this whole thing(the program) makes me so anxious....how was the whole program for you??

thanks :)

Hi!

I know that North and west valley occupational centers have the same program as East L.A.

I just graduated from one of those schools. It was very hard to get in. They pick only 15 out of 200 students.

English test/Math test to interview..very stressful but go for it. They have a very high passing rate.

Hi,

I too was interested in the East Valley Occ. program. I was saddened to learn that they were not accepting any more students on the list for Sept.09, only 2010. I would love to go there, as they have a solid pass rate -- and it is the most affordable option around. However I cant wait I year to start, sooo.....school debt here I come.

Hi Chinita310,

Congratulations on graduating! I have an interview setup and I was wondering about their interview process? How can I get ready for it? Do you have any tips? THANK YOU!!!!!!!

hey dee77happy,

i was wondering...

when did you apply for the program? are you starting in the fall?

do you know when they accept applications? and also, what are the pre- reqs?

sorry for all the questions!! i want to apply to WVOC or NVOC so i need info. :)

thanks!!

Hey,

I'm actually trying to find out info for my boyfriend. He hasn't started yet but he does have a few interviews lined up. I don't think they have any pre-requisites, BUT it only helps you if you have classes like Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology etc. done. I know they go by a point system and they assign points to the number of classes you have completed and if you have work experience. I hear the adult programs through the Orange County Adult Schools are pretty competitive to get into. I know some people with bachelors and even masters degrees that applied. Not to deter you from applying, but getting as much experience and science courses like the ones I've listed above will help you be a better candidate. I hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. My boyfriend is the one applying, but I also educated myself on a lot of the stuff hes going through.

GOOD LUCK!

Dee

I've taken all the typical nursing pre-reqs (a&p, chem, psych, sociology... everything except micro but im planning to take that this summer or fall) so that might helpt.

i'm also trying to find some place that offers CNA training during summer. is your boyfriend a CNA?

i actually live in L.A. so i wont be applying anywhere near the OC. im gonna try to get into the north valley occupational center or west valley occupational center...

good luck to your boyfriend & thanks for the info! very much appreciated :)

No, he is not a CNA. There are a lot of community colleges that offer CNA and even adult schools that will offer it for really small fees. Heres a link that might be helpful for you, it lists all of the CNA programs in California.

This is a link to all of the LVN programs and their pass rates on the boards in CA if you don't have it yet.

Hope this helps!
