Iam dreading math for my upcoming lpn program at mci in va beach va,i am so bad when it comes to math ,i think i will do fine overall but my biggest fear is failing math....does anyone no what kind of math i will be dealing with and what to expect?

You and I both. Do you know the name of the math course included in your school's LPN program? I think it's different for different schools.

Well they didnt really specify ,it just say nursing math and ive heard some people say that there is some math included in pharmacology

I take my Pharm final tomorrow. The math part will be the least of your worries! What the kicker is learning the medications, their therapeutic effect, adverse effects, pharmacological effects, their class, etc. the math is easy if you set it up right. Multiply and divide. Plus other little things. Knowing conversions and such. We had to make a 95 or above to pass pharm. you get two chances.

Thanku ,im a cna/medtech so i deal with medication administration i think that will be ok for me ,if thats all i have to wotry about then hopefully i should do well but when i tell you math is my weakest subject it really is.Im just hoping i can grasp it and get through, thanks a bunch.

I just finished med math. It consisted of oral meds calculations, liquid injection calculation, iv drip calculation, pediatric med calculation, safe dosage calculation. It wasn't hard, basically find the method that is easiest for you, and you got it! The book we used was Henke's Med-Math: Dosage Calculation, Preparation & Administration, Seventh Edition. The math in pharmacology is basic math.

At mci you will take dosage calculations I attend mci in Newport News it's an easy class

The math isn't that bad. They'll teach you an equation that you'll get to know very well.

Me too !!! Its my biggest fear as well. I have bought the dummies book to hlp me review before I start my program.....the "medical calculations and dosages". Just get some books like that and Kahn university website is awesome! Check it out. Free vids in everything math. The good part is I keep hearing ppl say "math will be the easy part!...just organize your life!" Lol

Hi tebrown. I go to the LPN program in the South Richmond (Va) campus of MCI. The nursing math isnt as bad as people make it out to be. The only advice I can give you about the math is to remember the equations. You will need to know how to convert temperature (F to C), how to do drops per minute and how many mLs per hr (ie for IV pumps), I forgot the name for what the equation is for but its for to determine how much meds the patient needs (ie how many tabs for a # of mgs) but that equation is D/H*Q (which is really easy in my opinion).
