Clueless New LPN & New Job

:nurse:Graduated LPN school, and passed the boards 2 weeks ago on 1st try, accepted a job offer at a pediatric clinic. I will start this my first LPN job in about 3 weeks. Now, I dont know what to expect or what I should bring besides my stethoscope. should I bring teddy bears, stickers or something in the like? I notice that nurses usually have big shoulder bags with them.

Also, I have orientation on the first two days, then on the job training.(as per my hiring persons statement) I was afraid to ask for more details. During lpn school a teacher mentioned that orientation should last more than two weeks . :confused:I am worried. Will they have me shadowing another nurse for some time after the 2 days of orientation? or will I be expected to do all of the LPN duties since during the interview I was told that they desperatly needed lpns because it was a very fast paced busy dept with no time to stop and break if you needed to? This is a very popular hosp with a good rep....any advice will help thanks.

Congrats on the job - that's fantastic!!

I wouldn't take much to orientation, just whatever you typically took to clinicals, plus some extra paper for notes and questions. You'll learn quickly what "extras" you will want to bring with you.

Never be afraid to ask questions!!! I'm not a nurse yet, but I have worked a bunch of jobs, and it is so much better to be upfront with your questions than to be shy about it. Make a list of your questions, take it with you to orientation, and if they don't get answered the first day, ask whomever is running your orientation. Don't let a lot of time go by with unanswered questions about your job - it can come back to bite you later!

Take a deep breath, remember that they KNOW you're a new grad, and pat yourself on the back for graduating, getting licensed, and landing a job! You can do it!

Awesome!! Congrats. I don't want to get personal or anything, but we aren't allowed to work with pediatrics in Tennessee. Is this a state mandated rule?
