  1. Just keep to yourself and if you need to discuss something with someone try and find a person that is fairly nice or that maybe doesn't talk much. If worse comes to worse talk to the instructors. Like has been previously mentioned, eyes on the prize. 1 year isn't that long. My instructor's phrase is "I can do anything for one year". This works in and out of the classroom. I would bring headphones and when no lecture was going I would listen to music while I studied or go to a different room. Wish you the best.
  2. I am not going to tell you everything will be ok, which I hope it will, but I believe you should know it is very hard. Being a single mother will make it even harder for you. Hopefully you have some great support people to help you along the way. I was in class with a single mother and she made it fine. It was hard but she made it. Just make preparations now because you will be in the books a lot. I wish you all the best and hope to see you on here with graduation news in about a year. Good luck.
  3. Yeah I agree with most everything posted. Medical terminology is big and knowing it will help you answer some test questions even if you don't know the answer. A&P is also another biggie. Be prepared for an extremely fast pace. I had a test every day from day 1 until just before Christmas break, which was the end of my first trimester. Congrats and good luck.
  4. Not sure where you are going or how your school is set up, but I just graduated and ours was 12 months. Relax now while you can. I know it is exciting and you are ready to go but when you start, if it is like my school was, you hit the ground running. We had a test everyday until Christmas break. Like I said, if it is like my school was then this is why I am saying relax now. For me I think it helped because I am a natural procrastinator so I had to study because there was no time to procrastinate. LOL. Good luck and just plan on getting well acquainted with the books.
  5. Awesome!! Congrats. I don't want to get personal or anything, but we aren't allowed to work with pediatrics in Tennessee. Is this a state mandated rule?
  6. Just graduated myself. It is bittersweet to say the least. I am excited and want to get to work right away but not having much luck. With unemployment running out I really need to work now but can't do anything if they don't offer. Hopefully it will be easier after boards, which I plan on taking asap.
  7. My instructor said to take it asap. That way you don't forget as much. In my case I am not working so I hope to take it real soon, like within the next couple of weeks if possible. My predictor said I had a 98% chance of passing the first time so that makes me feel better but I felt awful when I finished the predictor. I just knew I had bombed it.
  8. My wife and I have decided that if we have a boy we would name him Leighton Isaac or Isaac Leighton.
  9. I guess I am biased, but I like my kids names: Cheyenna Rhein (rain) and Raven Octavia.
  10. Thanks, that helps a lot. That makes more sense. This wasn't discussed very much in clas and isn't very clear in the book either. Thanks for all your help.
  11. Can someone explain what the different degrees of an episiotomy are? I know there are 1st,2nd,3rd, and 4th, but i don't know how to tell the difference. Thanks
  12. I have more of a question about episiotomies. Since i am a male I can;t really offer any stories, but I don't think my wife had one with our 1st child (8lb 14 oz). What I was wondering is what does 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree represent? I know it is the tear/laceration, but how do you determine what is what? I am looking in my text book, but I only see the 2 types, not the degrees. It may be in there but I haven't found it yet. I am starting Maternal-Child this semester. Thanks
