Career transition from HR to Nursing

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I'm an HR professional with a masters degree in org. mgmt and looking to transition to nursing. Looking for good suggestions either to enter a RN or LVN program. Can I get credit for my non-nursing degrees? Will I have to spend extra time in school completing the basic course requirement? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.:)

Regarding getting credit for previous education, it's not likely. This past yr, I returned to school to get an LVN diploma. I have an undergraduate degree in biology. I took Anatomy, Physiology, Chem, Nutrition, and a whole host of other science classes - over 25 yrs ago. The school required that I retake A&P and Nutrition because it had been >5 yrs. That may be a state requirement, but I'm not sure.

But folks w/undergrad degrees can go directly to accelerated master's reentry programs. Check out UCSF's:

I have a niece who did it and is a NP in southern CA. The program was rigorous but she did great. Check your local university for similar programs.

There maybe other options. I've heard of a few. Hopefully other posters will have some ideas. You may want to check other forums on this board.

Good luck!
