does anyone know of any lvn programs in california (preferably northern), that does not require any prereqs?

Hello Zar,

Here in the Central Valley of California there are a couple of schools that accept students with a high school diploma. One is Visalia Adult School, located of course, in Visalia. I believe that Hanford has a similar prerequisite.

When you apply, you take a placement test and are chosen based on how you do on the test, an oral interview and any background of medical experience such as CNA, medical office. Some of the students have no previous experience.

This isn't exactly northern Cal, but maybe close. Hope it helps. You can go to the California Board of Licensed Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Techs and check out the listing for all the schools in the state.

As far as I know the only LVN programs that do not require pre-reqs are a few vocational schools and private schools; but not all, and no colleges either. I am in N. Cal and I personally do not know of any non-college LVN programs, but that does not mean they do not exist. You could probably go to the board for LVN in california (http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/)and get a list of the LVN programs in the state(http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/Education/Schools/VN_Schools.asp). I do know that california is the one state that an LVN can become an LVN without going to a program (via experience, i.e. years of CNA...but I do not know the specifics..that would be on the links I gave you)

Many of the private Vocational schools (Unitek, CSI, Western Career College) don't require prequisites before you enter the school. But they will have you take prequisites at their school and then after you complete it you immediatly begin the nursing part of the program. Of course if you have taken these somewhere else they will usually give you a monetary credit toward the total cost of tuition plus you have less school to do.
