Apply for Lvn and Adn at same time?

I am taking prereqs now for adn program and my goal is to start applying next spring to several community colleges for the adn program. I'm located in southern california and keep hearing about the excessive waiting list how you may have to wait an additional 6 months-1yr to get accepted. My question is has anyone applied for both? The only thing is if I get accepted to lvn school, it'll start jan 2015 and if I were to get accepted in adn school, it'll start fall 2015. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Ps has anyone got into adn program first try here in californiia?

I would apply to both schools. But in my opinion, it may be worth the wait to go to the ADN program if you start the fall semester. It may just save you more time.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. Its a tough decision that I need to see all of the pros and cons. I haven't taken my science classes yet so I know the weighted criteria for most adn schools are based on your science gpa and work experience (cna)

I would say apply to both as well. Even if you take your science classes, there may still be a wait after that (depending on how many others apply, with good grades). I actually have been waiting for an ADN program for over a year (I'm in Detroit, MI) and applied to an LPN program and was initially denied, then accepted a couple months later. My plan is to complete my LPN-to-RN at a community college next year.

If you are applying to both you could always do the LVN program and then do LVN to ADN if they offer that. This way no time is really lost if you have to wait to get into the ADN program.

I have a couple friends who got into ADN programs first try...it is possible :o)

@shan409Thanks for sharing. That's what I'm afraid of and trying to think ahead. I'm in CA so I'm sure you heard how saturated our community colleges are. @jaxnjo. Thanks for sharing. true I just keep hearing you must have a year of lvn , before you can bridge. Wow, how did your friends get in first try? :)

@tasha92337 They applied to a few schools and took who accepted them. One had great grades 4.0 I believe.

Do your homework on bridge programs. Some will allow you in with not working as an LVN.
