Anyone on the same boat?

I'm a 37 year old male, married, and have a 10 month old kid, graduated from college in a foreign country more than 10 years ago, and have no medical background whatsoever. I'll be starting LVN school on the 18th of August, and I would like to ask people here for some advice...

First, will it help to start reading about nursing subjects? If so, what topics should I read on? This is the first time I felt so anxious bordering on fear since a decade ago... and I thought age and maturity would help, but I guess not!!

I think you should spend as much time with your little boy as you can over the next few weeks-relax and have some fun before you start the grind.Maybe take a few hours to set up and organize your study area.Good Luck

Just wait until you start school to find out what the curriculum is. Then once you know what your classes are then you can supplement your learning based on what subject you're taking. GOOD LUCK!

Take a deep breath and relax. Enjoy your freedom.

You will not be the only person in the room without a healthcare background. That's why they call it school. Everyone is there to learn.

Enjoy the baby, they are only little for a very short time.

May be the same school . Are you in Florida ?

I'm 43 year old male with some medical background :

when i was a kid i was taking care of my dog's wounds

and my own cuts and bruises :wink2: . If seriously , i got bachelor's

degree in Civil Engineering , that has nothing to do with

Medicine . Of course i'm anxious too . First because of my

age , second because english is my very second language :)

P.S. Sorry for spelling and punctuation . Still working on it.

I am in the same boat but older. I a 52 and have NO medical background other than raising two kids.

I plan on spending the next two weeks organizing my study area and enjoying life.

I firmly believe that our age will be a great asset to us in nursing school. At orientation they talked about how crucial critical thinking skills are. Those of us that are a little older have a lot of experience to draw on in the way of critical thinking.

Let's all enjoy the adventure together and pat ourself on the back for reaching out for dreams.

I just watched the movie Patch Adams btw, and if I were to go by his speech (towards the end of the movie), I consider ALL OF YOU colleagues as already being doctors..or nurses!!! You just made my day, thanks for healing me!!!
