When LTC patients pass away :'(

Nurses LPN/LVN

My patient died today before my shift. I went in early to help out after it happened cause everyone was beside themselves (including the other patients.. It happened in front of other patients in the dinning room)

my heart hurts. I worked in a hospital for 5 years in oncology and have seen death a large number of times but this is something that will affect me for a while.. I know it.

I used to do her pm care a lot of times after giving meds.. And she would sometimes tell me, "that's ok I know you're busy I can wait for the aide" but I had a bond with her and most times got her ready for bed myself. Her husband was always so on top of us with her care cause he loved her soooo much. And he's beside himself. I feel so badly for him.

Just wanted to to get that out. Thanks for reading.

What a good long life she lived. And a death that spared her from long, lingering suffering.Of course you'll miss your friend.

Here's a hug..... (((((HUGS)))))

I know how it feels to lose a nursing home resident that had been near and dear to your heart. Her death seemed short, sweet, and devoid of prolonged suffering, which is something that seems reassuring. Good luck to you.
