Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hey, all you hospice nurses tell me how you like your jobs, what is your salary for your state, what makes you like hospice nursing?

Thanks in advance.

I just started in Hospice two weeks ago and I'm making $17.00/hr. So far surprisingly I absolutely love the job. I'm saddened by the situations that the people are in but it's nothing I every expected. I've gotten more warm fuzzy's working this job than others, and that is what I've been looking for in nursing. I get one on one time, not to heal physically or make better, but to comfort the family and the patient emotionally and to make sure that patient is being treated with the utmost dignity. I'm assisting in their transition from here to heaven and that is a big job and very rewarding. I never dreamed I would work Hospice but so far I think it's my dream job. To have someone who is dying look at you and say thank you is the the most wonderful feeling. Someone thanking you for helping them pass peacefully, how special is that.

Thanks for the information, i currently work in homehealth as a communication nurse and went to apply for part-time with a hospice organization and they offered me full-time I hadn't decided on the job yet, i go Tues afternoon to talk about what they have to offer me. I really want to do it part-time, i feel like i have been called to do this for quite sometime i have had my mind on hospice, i just love the people i work with and my boss and company now at the home health agency, i can't see myself leaving there.

I'm into my third week as a new hospice nurse. The family can be so, so difficult to deal with. Some hate that I am there and according to other nurses at my job some families feel we are there to kill their loved one or they hate and will not accept that we are giving morphine. Learning how to deal with the family will be the biggest challenge, which is good for me because I left my last job because I wasn't learning anything new. And it can be very rewarding when the family and patient are so grateful. No job is perfect so I'm going to keep moving forward.
