New job at dermatology office...

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I am an LPN who has been out of work the past several years, to be a stay at home mom. I am trying to get back in to nursing soon, but am not sure what is the best area to apply in. After getting my license in '08, I barely worked at all, before quitting to stay home with my kids. So I am basically an entry level LPN. I have a friend who is a receptionist at a local dermatology office, and said she may be able to help get me a job there part time. I am wondering if a dermatology office is a good place to start out as an entry level LPN? Do most dermatology offices train on the job?

Specializes in 4.

It would all depend on the Dr. I would hope your friend would explain to him/her or the Office Manager your situation. I am assuming you've had an interview, so they should know where you stand. Just be upfront & honest with them. Most Dr's offices train you to their standards anyways, so you shouldn't have a problem. I think it's a good 1st nursing job.

Specializes in Pulmonology Clinic.

I have floated in our clinic to derm and it was pretty straight forward. Any specialty you go into will need to do OJT as everyone does it a little differently. I love working in an office. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies.... I still have to submit my application & resume, but plan to be honest & up front immediately. My friend said I had a good chance of getting the job. I'm getting kinda excited about it!

You should definitely be excited about it as I've had a friend in a similar sitiuation and it totally worked out for her. As 1pinknurse said, they trained her to their standards, etc.

Good luck, although it sounds you have a really good chance already!
