I'm a new student so can't speak from experience but I've seen ppl apply and get offers before they even take the nclex. One person I knew was even trained on the floor at his job before taking it but they gave him a deadline. (He also worked there as a cna beforehand so might have played a role in that)

I got a job in LTC when I graduated and before I was licensed. I worked as a CNA then as a Med Aide until I was licensed.

I had a couple of classmates who were hired before they even got their actual license. They were applying right after they took their NCLEX. I, on the other hand could not find a single job since a lot of places wanted your actual license. I waited until I got mines to apply, when I finally did I got a job offer at a hospital. So it really depends on the facility or place. But I have heard that usually private companies will hire you before getting your license and train you in the meantime. Good luck!
Thank you all so much for your replies!!! I'm slated to take my nclex the end of the month.. I've had a few companies say let us know when you're licensed so I'll just keep on!!!

Depending in where you are, but here in Texas it took me and most of my class 6 months to get a job. Not trying to discourage you but it is TRUE to most of us as you can see on posts of new grads on the forums. But dont lose your drive and always expect positive result whenever you submit the resume. The right job will come for you, it may not be the kind you like but you gotta start somewhere. It helps a little bit if you have at least worked as CNA before.

Hi eklecticsol,
I'm also a new LPN grad patiently waiting to take my boards. I was wondering the same thing.. I'm so eager to apply for jobs.. but most require a license #. My boards are in the first week of Oct. Good luck

Here in PA you could apply for a temporary practice permit using just your school records. This is good for one year, and allow you to practice as a practical nurse, while waiting to take your boards. I practiced with my TPP for three months prior to taking boards. It was nice, because it allowed me to get a job immediately out of school, I even had my job before I graduated.

One of the girls in my class applied and had an interview before she took her boards. They told her once she got her license to give them a call. She did and she had a second interview, so I think it depends on the area and company.
Hi Eklecticsol,
Thank you! I apologize for the delayed response. Yes, I recently began a 4 week course to help prepare me for the boards. The big day is next week already! It went by so fast. Have you taken your boards as of yet?
@bella it's fine!! No worries, I actually haven't taken my boards.. we did the ati comprehensive and I gotta 94% pad rate on nclex, I wanna schedule for Oct 8th! . Been studying doing 100 questions a day for the last 2 weeks, but I. Wanna work more on basic care and comfort, and maternity!! Aww you nervous?? Feeling line you're gonna throw up??! What books did you use? I have Saunders, and our school gave us this virtual ati coach so I'm tryna get there!!!
