I have been planning the move for a very long time. My son lives in Orlando, and since I no longer have family in the frigid north, I am really excited about the move. However, I don't have any idea where to begin looking for work. I really need your advise on which facilities are good or bad. What are your experiences and where do you work?

Also is there are anyone who has made the move from cold, snow and ice to the warner climate in Florida, I wonder how you managed the temperature change. My son loves living in Orlando 100 percent. He can't even imagine moving back north. I think I might feel that way too.

Also, I have a dtr with a learning disability, she will be a senior in high school next year. I have heard a lot of different views on the school system in Florida, what are your experiences? I am thinking that it may be good for her to have at least one year of h.s. in the state she will be working in. There are absoutley no jobs in this city for anyone, esp if you may need a to work in a non specificied field. All the resturants and hotels are staffed by the college kids in our area.

We will be renting, and also wonder how the apartments measure up. Can't believe all you get for your money. But is really as good as it sounds?

I have so many questions, I hope some of you can give me advise.

I have, but mostly RNs reply. The field for LPNs are different. RNs in florida can easily get hospital, travel and other jobs. LPN aren't hired and used the same way. I posted in the LPN post, because I only want advise for my fellow LPNs.

I just relocated from Orlando to southern California last year. I was an LPN in FLorida for 7 years. If you are moving to Orlando I can suggest these places to work...If you are interested in homecare I would suggest Children first homecare agency or PSA (pediatric services of america). They both pay about the same...anywhere from $15-$20/ hr depending on the complexity of the case. Both also have training if you are new to peds homecare--including vent training. If you are interested in hospitals I know that Health central in Ocoee hires LPN for about $16-18/hr plus you will get shift diff's. I also believe that Florida hospital hires LPN's for their clinics and some floors in the hospital--I do not know the pay. Vitas hires LPN to do shift work and they also have a few facilities that you can work in--this is a hospice agency. Pay there is about $16/hr. I lived in Altamonte Springs and found the schools pretty good. Lake Brantely has an excellent reputation--this is a high school. I loved central florida! The bad news is that as home prices and home owners insurance are on the rise, wages don't change and are sub standard for the cost of living. Should you have any specific questions pm me. The wages i qouted are over a year ago...I have since become and RN and moved but they should be about the same....
