Hi guys! Im new to allnurses.com and I signed up because I've figured that who else can help me but my fellow nurses? So anyways, I have a question.
Im being offered an on-call job at a convalescent hospital in Los Angeles. They said that someone is quitting soon to purse their RN degree so I will eventually land a full-time position. They also said that I will only be trained for two days, 3 if i ask for an extra day, and the nurse patient ratio is 1 to 45-50. Now Im just curious to know if that will be too overwhelming especially for a new grad? Im a little afraid to take the job because the number of beds I will be assigned to and all the duties it comes with (admissions, transfers, discharge, manual daily and weekly charting, meds, emergencies, and the unavoidable family concerns) My two sisters are LVNs as well and the max beds that they hold is 35 and they say that its pretty stressful already. So i cant even imagine 45-50! But as a new grad I feel like I NEED to take it because Im not really getting any calls from the places (mostly facilities) that Ive applied to and my bills arent going away. It has actually risen because of my school loans. Any advice guys?
@illusionist its pretty busy. the dsd keeps switching me from station to station and putting me on different shifts to learn how the place is ran. its a whole lot to process and im expected to go solo sometime next week. *sigh. i hope things go well. Serrano North didnt call you?
@elektra6 well, that ratio is actually throughout the day at that place.
went in today and it looked great.
Even shook hands with who I think was the DON, who told me she would meet with me after a meeting.
Sat and waited ....waited ..waited lol until 10am came about and I had to move my car.
I guess in those 2 minutes I was gone the meeting ended and everyone went back to their offices.
Asked to speak with her about my application but was told I would have to leave it with the nurse supervisor....
Le sigh hoping for the best.
Thank you for the heads up though @kristinelouise
@Illusionist do you know if your rehab center is hiring?
Any other places that seemed promising at all during your guys' search?
lol I have never wanted a job so badly in my life. I used to get hired everywhere I applied on the spot with just simple interviews....not so much for nursing i guess lol

I am also a new grad and seriously I am so glad to hear that you decided to take the position!!! Finding a job in LA has proven to be almost impossible for me:no:
I have been everywhere around LA and surrounding areas and have yet to get a concrete offer
Truly losing hope at this point.
If you hear of any openings over at Serrano or anywhere at all I would reaaaally appreciate a heads up.
