Summer Nurse Tech 2011

Has anyone worked as a nurse tech that can share your experience with those of us who are trying to secure a position. What type of tasks were you allowed to do, etc? I will graduate from an ADN program in Dec 2011 and have a 3.5, am involved in organizations, and also have a Bachelors degree. However, I'm realizing how difficult that it is to get one of these positions. I've had one interview so far and learned that I was 1 of 700 applicants, and I didn't receive an offer. Here's the kicker, I was told by the recruiter that I could volunteer for the same company and basically do the same work as the techs (free of charge). I know that I could volunteer and network and maybe learn some skills, but that will be my last resort. Sorry, didn't mean to digress, just wanted to vent a little.
