Help!!! Very confused

Hello all.. I am new to this site, but I've been looking around for some time now and finally decided to join :wink2:. I am currently pursuing a BS in Biology. I have about a year left but I am considering nursing. When I first went to school, nursing was my first choice but I decided against it after my first semester. I wanted to finish my BS and apply to an accelerated nursing program but lately I've lost my motivation to study BIO. I really want to get into nursing now but I don't know the best way to go about it. I thought about LPN. Any advice?

It is hard to say without knowing more about you. What do you like and dislike about different classes, what made you change your mind initially, why are you in bio, and what, in your mind, is it that nurses do and why do you want that. This sounds less like a nursing question, but a general what do I want to do with the rest of my life question.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY LACK OF RESPECT FOR LPNs, BUT: It sounds like you are about to have a Bachelor's degree any day. It doesn't make any sense to go from a Bachelor's degree to being an LPN. I would compare it becoming a PA a after being a MD.

Thanks for the reply! I started out nursing and decided I wanted to be an MD after my first semester. After doing internships, I realize that nurses are the ones to show empathy to the patients and they have more patient contact than the MDs (from what I've experienced). I went through a CNA course when I was in HS, and worked under Rn's during an internship. I've always known I wanted to go into medicine/health, I've just always been confused on what aspect. The more I get into BIO, the less interested I become. It's not because I'm getting discouraged, I'm doing fairly well in my studies and I'm almost done. It just makes it harder when you realize you're not doing what you really want to do. I'm still confused on how I want to pursue nursing. I don't know if I should just finish my BS or try a different route.

You do not need a Biology degree to get into an Accelerated program, so find another field that you are interested in. Just make sure that you include the prereqs for the Accelerated program you choose.

my A&P instuctor made the comment once that he had a degree in biology, but could not get a job better than "bottle washer" in a lab, and went on and took the teaching certificate program...nursing has a lot more options

check with a nursing program about what you need to get into an accerlerated program and get your name on the list as soon as possible because of the limited number of students who can be accepted into each program

an accelerated program probably wouldn't be any longer [or not much] than a lpn course and the rn will be much better in the long run

Thanks everyone for your advice. I've been talking to my sister who went through the same thing, and I think I'm just going to finish up with bio and try to get in an Accelerated program so I'll start calling around soon. Thanks again!!
