Just wondering what other RNs do when they first begin to hone their marketing skills.

Hi, runningmom1
Very good questions and valid concerns.
I knew that marketing was the hard part. Last Friday, after 15 follow up calls (is everyone always on the phone?) and ten pre calls, I reached my limit! I did speak to one attorney, who was very attentive, but had no medical cases at this time.
Some days it's that way. Don't be discouraged with this, however. Fridays are notorious for bad days to market to attorneys (at least in my experience). Many are scrambling to leave the office early, are out of the office, etc.
I took a deep breath and did something with my kids for the rest of the afternoon.
And, that was PERFECT! Exactly what I would have done. Leave it be. It's Friday afterall. Enjoy the children, your family and start anew on Monday.

That's how it works, too. You "back into" another contact. Partners within a group or cold leads where you can get a reference to another attorney.
Just wondering what others do when you are feeling discouraged...
This is quite normal to become discouraged and sad to say, is where many LNCs give up. You sound like you've chosen to continue and that's where you will be successful.
Just a few tips for self-motivation:
- Keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
- Keep positive people around you. Ones who can remind you of your passion for this career choice. Cheerleaders, if you will. You do not need anyone who gives hollow advice, but ones who genuinely tell you the truth and are emotionally supportive.
- Seek out those with whom you can bounce off ideas regarding marketing techniques; like here at allnurses.com
. Join your local chapter of the AALNC and network with others like you. - Keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
- Do not dwell on past failures. Look to the future.
- Do not sit around in baggy pants and old worn-out tops. Causally dress the part for work everyday. Have a well-lit environment. Let the sun shine in.
- Keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
- Do something nice for yourself at least once a week.
- Keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
- Have handy, a motivational note or quote that you can see every single day. Tape your favorite to the bathroom mirror. Use a coffee cup that has a saying or icon on it that makes you smile!!
- Do not procrastinate - set goals and deadlines
- Try not to work if/when you have problems at home. They have priority.
- If you feel overwhelmed, stop. Place it all away and start afresh the next day.
- Keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
Oh, did I mention...
Keep reminding yourself that you will be successful.
Hang in there, runningmom1. You are headed in the right direction. And, come here for more pep talk!! We'll keep the light on for ya.
