I have been researching MSN programs with an emphasis in legal nurse consulting. Is it better to get a Master's of Jurisprudence in Health Law, or just an MSN with an emphasis in LNC? What will the legal system acknowledge more? The price difference is about $15k. Thanks for any opinions and info.

Are there any MSN programs concentrating on legal consulting? I've never heard of that before, just the various certification programs.

Yes, Wilmington university has a MSN with an emphasis in legal nurse consulting. $424 per credit hour, 36 credits, + fees. It is an online program.

The answer to your question about which, if any, gets you extra weight with the legal profession is: Not much either way. You don't even have to have any certification or training to call yourself Jane Doe RN LNC, and many folks will tell you that n tty doesn't care so long as you are smart enough to do the job that needs getting done.

That said, I'd take the LNCC certification (it's the only one, really-- it's ANCC approved, and all the others are certificates, not certifications) whatever you do (check the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants for all the info-- more cost-effective, too) and do your formal academic education depending on what YOU like and enjoy.
