i think we can use this as a good motivational tool and track our progress. i mean think about it. one step at a time. all we are doing is putting something in the mail and then making follow up phone calls. i mean this is not rocket science- and we dont even have to meet the person. not at first any way. so i say on monday which will be the 5th we have 20 packets ready to mail out and go. what do you say? just get on the internet today or sometime between now and then and make a directory of attorneys and get the list of 20 that you are gonna mail to on monday.
    deal?
i havent been able to find any lnc's in my immediate area, so i guess i will use the internet to find my support

I too am using this New Year to get past my fears and just "do it!" I have mailed a few packets yesterday, so I can call next Thursday (working around my hospital schedule). On Monday I have an appointment (not LNC related) in the "big city" about an hour away. I plan on hand delivering packets to three attorney offices. I feel a good way to get over some fears.
I haven't found LNCs in my immediate area yet. I have joined the local chapter of AALNC, so I will see if I develope any contacts.
The support on this website has really given me much needed encouragement and advice.
    Thanks

I'm in! I've been working on overcoming my unexplained TERROR of calling. Did a few office visits to break the ice, and it is helping. I'm visual - seeing that the attorney's staff have been down and out friendly is slowly melting my fear of cold calling (packets, follow-up calls, the works).
Tho I think I will keep it to 10 packets for myself, something I can reasonably accomplish with next few weeks hospital work schedule, so I can be sure to follow-up!

Hi to all my fellow CLNCs! I didn't realize how much of a procrastinator I was until I completed the course! But my problem is getting my packet together. I am having a hard time coming up with a sample case study for my packet. I would love any advice as to how I accomplish this. I do not know what form to use. I have looked into the Lexi (I think that's it) packet for case studies but haven't purchased because I am assuming quite expensive and I'd rather not purchase until I have this career up and running! I would appreciate any help out there! Thankyou.

i wish i could help you out, but i am in the same boat. i have not had a first case yet, so i do not have a sample case study. where do we get one? do we use a sample from whatever program we went through? or do we make it up?

bluehair: did you find the office visits easier to do?

yes, so far i have found the in-person interviews to be easier on me. more effective? not necessarily so, and not likely the best use of my time. but - as a temporary transition so i can see their responses as i get over my fear of marketing - yes, it's really helping. i am exceptionally visual about life, and being able to read someone's body language is a big help to me. i have never had any problem caring for any patient, whether a street person or some big hospital ceo. never had a problem interacting with even the most difficult md's - always can figure out some way to make the interaction work. but that was always in person. this follow-up phoning after mailing packets really stops me cold. mailing just a few packets, showing up with a package of holiday cookies with a bow to introduce myself and attempt to follow-up has gotten me moving. i have only done a very few - but can feel my fears starting to melt, lol! so - i will not overwhelm myself by committing to 20 packets next week. i plan on doing 10, a number i know i can commit to actually completing and following up on (maybe even by phone, lol!).

i admire those who can really go for it in marketing. obviously they are much more likely to be successful, once people realize their business exists. you aren't likely to get any work if no one knows you are even out there.

as for my case study - we had case studies for the program i took (lnc stat). part of their marketing package provides you with a case study to print and use. they were part of the program, so you did actually review this on your own before coming up with the final product (you aren't just pretending to have done the case study).

best wishes to all!!! let's go get 'em!

Unfortunetely I did not purchase the marketing part of the program so therefore I did not get an example of a case study. Let me clarify. I have a case study in my book but I do not have the screening form that I would use to put in my packet. Am I understanding this? Is that what you have? A case study and then you completed the form to show how you analyzed the case?

I took the Vicki Milazzo course, so I might have been instructed differently. We were given case studies to analyze and then write them up in a variety of formats that we can use as examples. For instance: a summary, narrative and chronological timeline, in a brief, moderate or comprehensive report. I do not send these out with my introduction letter. I go over these in an actual interview, then you only present one or two pages of each. You are just showing them the format, they are usually too busy to actually read through them. After the interview, I leave the samples with the attorneys.

I have folders that also hold my business card, and on one side have a sample (1 or 2 pages only) of a summary, narrative and two of a chronological timeline (seems this is the more popular format), on the other side I have my resume or CV.
I have only had three actual interviews (two attorneys worked together), and each just briefly glanced at the examples. One attorney wanted a nurse/doctor team to screen/write up reports for no fee and then testify (will then be paid). I politely turned him down (he also wanted me to find a doctor to work with). The other two liked my presentation (took only 20 min.) and said they will keep my info on file and use me when they need my services.

In our class, we were told not to show your screening form. This is for your use and/or subcontractors use only.
I don't know if this helps or not, we were told we could make up our own case samples to show the attorneys.

I also seem to do better/less fearful when speaking with people in person and not over the phone. Unfortunately I live too far away to make frequent trips to the city to hand deliver intro letters or follow up, but I am getting better at phone calling.
